The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has just issued a plan to implement Action Program No. 18-CTrHĐ/TU of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to implement Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture, with many specific targets and tasks for the period 2026-2030 and a vision to 2045.
According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City aims to comprehensively complete the system of cultural and sports facilities from the city level to the grassroots; ensuring that 100% of neighborhoods, hamlets, and residential areas have community cultural activity venues by 2030. The city is also promoting digital transformation in the cultural sector, striving to complete the digitization of all national-level cultural heritage sites by 2026 and the digitization of city-level heritage sites. Simultaneously, the education system is oriented towards strengthening cultural and artistic content, contributing to the comprehensive development of Ho Chi Minh City residents.
In the cultural industry sector, Ho Chi Minh City aims to increase its contribution to the GRDP to approximately 7% by 2030, and towards 10% in the following period; to establish at least 5 national brands in fields such as film, performing arts, cultural tourism, design, and fashion . The city will regularly organize large-scale cultural and sports events and festivals that meet international standards; promote its image through the translation and publication of literary and historical works abroad; and complete the nomination dossier for the Cu Chi Tunnels to become a World Cultural Heritage site.
The plan also outlines many key tasks and projects such as developing the cultural industry, building the Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space, developing the night-time economy associated with tourism, preserving and promoting heritage values, promoting cultural diplomacy, and applying digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in cultural management. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City plans to implement a series of key projects such as: building a Symphony, Music and Opera House; a Traditional Arts Center… to create the infrastructure for sustainable cultural development.
With a long-term vision, Ho Chi Minh City strives to become a city with a happiness index among the top in Asia, gradually building a global cultural city, an attractive destination for creativity and international cultural exchange.
