Aiming for full recovery of tourism activities by 2024

On December 22, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) held a conference to review activities in 2023 and deploy the work plan for 2024.

In 2023, Vietnam tourism has shown positive signs of recovery, continuing to recover from 2022. To achieve this result, VITA Chairman Vu The Binh said that the Government , management agencies, associations, and travel businesses from central to local levels have made many efforts.

In 2023, the Prime Minister chaired two conferences with the tourism industry to discuss and find solutions to remove difficulties and promote tourism development.

On May 18, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Resolution No. 82/NQ-CP of the Government on key tasks and solutions to accelerate recovery and accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development.

At the 5th session of the 15th National Assembly, the National Assembly approved new policies on visas and immigration, creating favorable conditions to attract international tourists.

Last year, VITA had many activities contributing to the overall development of Vietnam tourism; continued to improve the apparatus, organize the term Congress, and develop members. By the end of 2023, VITA has nearly 18,000 corporate members and about 20,000 individual members.

Notably, VITA is always active and proactive in proposing mechanisms and policies to remove difficulties for businesses, creating conditions for tourism development.

Many recommendations and proposals from the Association and its members have been included in Resolution 82/NQ-CP of the Government issued on May 18, 2023 on key tasks and solutions to accelerate recovery and accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development.

VITA, together with its affiliated units and tourism associations of provinces and cities, have successfully organized many tourism promotion, advertising and communication activities, contributing to the overall development of Vietnam tourism; at the same time, calling on tourism businesses and local tourism associations to focus on researching and developing new tourism products; innovating and improving the quality of existing tourism products to suit the trends and needs of tourists.

In addition, specialized associations and unions in provinces and cities have implemented many training activities and developed tourism human resources to meet urgent needs after the Covid-19 pandemic; promoted international cooperation activities, continued to implement signed agreements and cooperation activities with international tourism organizations in a number of key markets such as Japan, Australia, Korea, Europe, the United States, etc.

In particular, VITA proposed and implemented the project "Reducing plastic waste in Vietnam's tourism sector" approved by the Global Environment Facility Small Projects Grant Program, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/GEF-SGP) to be implemented in two years 2023-2024.

The project aims to promote activities to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development of the tourism industry.

Entering 2024, VITA calls on the tourism business community to strive towards the goal of fully recovering tourism activities on all criteria achieved in 2019.

Tourism businesses are determined to attract and serve over 20 million international visitors to Vietnam, making Vietnam a country with highly developed tourism in the region.

According to Mr. Vu The Binh, VITA and its affiliated units and the member business community will focus on implementing a number of key tasks: organizing and developing members; Proposing and recommending to central and local state agencies to resolve difficulties and obstacles of tourism businesses in the process of implementing Resolution 82/CP of the Government; promoting tourism promotion activities; developing new tourism products; innovating and improving the quality of tourism services; organizing training courses, coaching and fostering tourism skills; continuing to effectively implement the Project "Reducing plastic waste in tourism business activities" and international cooperation activities...

At the conference, many delegates from organizations and businesses shared the current status of tourism development and solutions to attract international visitors, turning domestic visitors into a high-spending group in the near future.

Also at the conference, VITA announced and awarded the Plastic Waste Management Application Design Award and awarded the title of Outstanding Tourism Event in 2023.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, by the end of November 2023, Vietnam had welcomed 11.2 million international visitors (estimated at 69% compared to 2019), serving 103.2 million domestic visitors.

Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 628.3 trillion VND. Of which, South Korea, China, Taiwan, the US and Japan are the largest markets sending tourists to Vietnam.
