As soon as the floodwaters began to recede, Hoi An ward authorities quickly activated the motto "wherever water goes, there is sanitation" with a sense of urgency.
Hundreds of cadres, civil servants, public employees, youth union members and especially the support of more than 300 cadres and soldiers of Military School of Military Region 5, along with local people, simultaneously joined the army.
Regardless of the thick mud and smelly garbage, the forces struggled day and night to clean and wash every road and street.
Mr. Tong Quoc Hung, Vice Chairman of Hoi An Ward People's Committee said: "The amount of garbage and mud is very large, but we are determined to clean up the entire old town as soon as possible, aiming to restore life and tourism services as quickly as possible."
Colonel Truong Thanh Quang, Deputy Political Commissar of Military School of Military Region 5, affirmed: "We are determined to work until Hoi An is free of garbage, then we will return to continue carrying out our mission."

In the event of a power outage, the clean water supply from the factory is interrupted, and the need for domestic and sanitary water becomes urgent.
Gieng Mai, one of the famous ancient wells of Hoi An, has become a "savior" for hundreds of Hoi An market traders.
People took turns carrying buckets of well water to wash their stalls and clean flooded items.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau, a business owner at Hoi An market, shared: “Thanks to Mai well, we have water to clean. Without this ancient well, it would take many days to clean up.”
At Hoi An market, the market management board mobilized maximum on-site manpower, used tankers to pump and high-pressure sprayers to wash away the mud, helping to speed up the cleaning process effectively.
Excavators and trucks from support units were also mobilized to transport dozens of tons of garbage and mud out of the central area, ensuring a safe environment for traders to soon return to business.
Mr. Cao Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of Hoi An Market Management Board said: “We work day and night. There is a lot of mud, but thanks to the support of the fire police, the urban environment company and the people, the cleaning work is done much faster.”
Not only the market area, the streets along the Hoai River such as Bach Dang, Nguyen Phuc Chu or the Cau Pagoda area are all submerged in mud and garbage.
Dozens of tons of garbage drifting from upstream pose a serious risk of pollution. Faced with this situation, local authorities are calling for community cooperation.

Many tourism businesses and restaurants sent their staff to join the clean-up, demonstrating their responsibility for the common heritage. In particular, young soldiers from the Military School of Military Region 5 enthusiastically cleaned Hoi An, leaving a good impression on the people.

Ngoc Nguyen Cuong, a student of the Military Weapons class, said: “In Gia Lai, I rarely see such a big flood. When the school launched the campaign to help people, I signed up right away. We will try our best to help Hoi An restore its environment soon.”
Thanks to the tireless efforts, many streets are now clear and almost all the mud and rubbish has been collected. Some shops and cafes have started to clean up and reopen. The atmosphere in the old town has gradually improved after days of being submerged in water.
It is expected that in the next few days, business and tourism activities in the old quarter will be restored. The moss-covered streets and ancient tiled roofs will soon be restored to their original beauty, ready to welcome visitors again.
