Hyundai Tucson NX5, the next generation of the popular SUV line, has just been revealed for the first time in test photos, revealing many notable changes from design to powertrain. As one of Hyundai's best-selling SUVs globally, Tucson is entering a comprehensive "transformation". The first images of the new generation Hyundai Tucson, internally coded NX5, have just been caught on a test drive with a discreet camouflage layer, revealing a completely new appearance, different from the current generation. Although still covered by camouflage, the Tucson NX5 has revealed sharper, more muscular lines than its predecessor.
According to experts, this model has a retro design combined with modern technology, with many similarities to the Hyundai N Vision 74 concept and the NEXO electric car. In particular, the square and powerful body of the new Tucson is reminiscent of the appearance of high-end Land Rovers, showing that Hyundai is aiming this SUV towards a luxurious, versatile and off-road-ready image, while still maintaining an elegant spirit in the urban environment. One of the key changes is that Hyundai has completely removed the diesel engine option on the new generation Tucson. Instead, the company will focus on developing two main powertrain lines: hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Notably, the PHEV version is oriented by Hyundai to become the ideal choice for urban users with the ability to operate entirely on electricity for a distance of up to 100 km, an impressive number, surpassing many competitors in the same segment today.
This allows users to travel every day without consuming a drop of gasoline, while minimizing emissions to the environment. However, the removal of diesel engines may cause some customers in Vietnam, who prefer diesel engines because of their good traction and fuel economy, to feel regretful. Not only is the exterior and engine completely transformed, the Hyundai Tucson NX5 also marks a strong step forward in the field of technology inside the cabin. The car will be one of the first models equipped with Hyundai's new operating system called Pleos, an advanced digital platform displayed on a 16:9 touchscreen, with an interface inspired by smartphones. This operating system will integrate the Pleos Playground Store, where users can download applications for entertainment, navigation, work or personalizing the driving experience, turning the cabin into a true “smart hub”. The Tucson NX5 will also feature a new AI virtual assistant called Gleo, which is capable of natural communication like ChatGPT. From giving directions, adjusting music, to answering questions about the weather or news, Gleo promises to bring an unprecedented smart interactive experience on a popular SUV.
Hyundai is expected to launch the Tucson NX5 in the third quarter of 2026, possibly at the same time as the new generation Elantra. With the complete removal of traditional engines to focus on hybrid and PHEV versions, the starting price of the new Tucson in Korea is expected to be around 34 million won, equivalent to 645 million VND. In the context of the increasingly clear trend of electric vehicles, the new generation Tucson is expected to become Hyundai's next "trump card", not only in terms of sales but also in positioning the image of a modern, environmentally friendly brand.
