If the program proves effective for problem students,it could be rolled out more widely in Indonesia.
According to Indonesian media, more than 270 high school students with special needs in West Java province have been sent to military barracks for study and training. Previously, these students often skipped school, had an attitude of opposition to their families and schools, showed signs of gaming addiction or had disruptive behavior.

Indonesian Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai expressed support for the program and said he would consider rolling it out nationwide if the pilot program met the criteria set by authorities.
"If the program is successful in ensuring that students' learning progresses on schedule and is effective in improving their mental health, ability, discipline and responsibility, the program could be rolled out nationwide," Mr. Pigai told Indonesian media.
Mr. Dedi Mulyadi - Governor of West Java Province, where the pilot program is being conducted - said the program aims to change the lifestyle of a specific group of problem students in the province.
He emphasized that education in the military environment was chosen by the authorities, because this environment is considered ideal for cultivating good qualities, discipline, sense of responsibility, spirit of cooperation... During the time students are trained in the military environment, they can continue to study the general education program.
The pilot program will be implemented in phases, based on the framework agreed upon by the parties involved. The program will only accept individual students whose families agree to participate in military training.
"We will not accept any individual student without the consent of that student's parents," Mr. Dedi affirmed.
