On November 13, 2025, at the 27th session (special session), the Hanoi People's Council, term XVI, 2021-2026, elected Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, to hold the position of Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee for the term 2021-2026.

Previously, on November 10, 2025, the Hanoi Party Committee held a Conference to announce the Politburo 's Decision on Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung, Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, ceasing to participate in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, ceasing to hold the position of Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee; being transferred and appointed to participate in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, holding the position of Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.
