Jannik Sinner made an impressive start at the Qatar Open 2026.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Winning easily with a score of 6-1, 6-4 against Tomas Machac on the evening of February 17th, Jannik Sinner made an impressive start at the ATP 500 Qatar Open 2026.

Two weeks after his five-set defeat to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the 2026 Australian Open, Sinner rediscovered his winning form by beating Tomas Machac 6-1, 6-4 at an ATP 500 hard court tournament in Doha, Qatar.

Sinner lost only 6 points on his serve, successfully neutralizing Machac's impressive start in the second set. Despite missing 3 match points on return in the ninth game of the second set, the Italian player still closed out the match with a powerful finishing serve.

The victory after 70 minutes extended the second seed's winning streak at this level to 11 matches, following his triumphs at the China Open and Vienna Open last October.

Speaking after the match, Sinner said: “The playing conditions were a bit worse today than yesterday because of the wind. But you have to adapt to any circumstances on the court. I felt good today, and my fitness was excellent. Each subsequent match will be more difficult, but I'm always ready.”

Sinner will face Alexei Popyrin in the second round of the 2026 Qatar Open. The Australian easily defeated home player Mubarak Shannan Zayid with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 victory in the first round.

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz is also participating in this year's Qatar Open. The Spanish star will play his first-round match against Arthur Rinderknech at 11:30 PM today (February 17).
