Speaking at a press conference at the Embassy of Kazakhstan on January 15, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Vietnam Kanat Tumysh informed about the country's outstanding achievements in 2023, as well as new directions in 2024.
He said that President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highly values Vietnam's innovation experience as well as the experience of Southeast Asian countries to build a more and more developed country. Thanks to that, Kazakhstan has consistently and successfully implemented political reform and urgent social issues.
President Tokayev has adopted the model of "a listening nation", whereby the government always listens to people's suggestions so that it can adjust policies promptly.
Quoting Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in an interview with Egemen Qazaqstan newspaper, Ambassador Tumysh said: "2024 is a very important year, a hinge for the country's economic development plan for the next 5 years (2024-2029) with the strategic goal of doubling GDP by 2029".
He affirmed that Vietnam is a key partner of Kazakhstan in Southeast Asia and plays a bridge role with countries in the region.
The Ambassador emphasized that one of the focuses of Kazakhstan's cooperation in the coming time will be to form a Vietnam - China - Kazakhstan railway, creating a bridge for goods from Southeast Asia to Kazakhstan, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Türkiye as well as Europe and vice versa.
He said that in order for the East-West Trans-Caspian Corridor railway between Vietnam - China - Kazakhstan to be formed, it is necessary to upgrade the Hai Phong - Hanoi - Lao Cai route according to common standards to connect to Kunming (China) and from there join the existing railway network connecting Kunming to Kazakhstan, to Turkey and Europe.
With the shortest transit corridor connecting Western China to Europe, goods from Vietnam, instead of taking 2 months by sea, can be transported to Europe in just two weeks.
Ambassador Kanat Tumysh emphasized that Kazakhstan wishes to become a logistics and transit center for Vietnamese goods to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Caucasus region, Türkiye as well as Europe. He said that high-ranking Vietnamese leaders have expressed interest in this field.
Kazakhstan wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in many traditional fields such as investment, trade, culture, education, while promoting cooperation in responding to other non-traditional security challenges including climate change, food security and energy security.
Also at the press conference, Ambassador Tumysh said that Kazakhstan looks forward to the visit of Vietnamese leaders to Kazakhstan in June 2024, on the sidelines of the Astana International Forum (AIF).
