In the past few days, because the main water channel of the dam in Sut M'ru village, Cu Sue commune (Cu M'gar district) broke, preventing water from flowing to the fields, people had to use sandbags and buy large water pipes to temporarily fix the problem and save dozens of hectares of rice in the heading stage.
In addition, about 20 workers were also mobilized to build embankments to temporarily lead water to the fields.
According to a quick report from Production Cluster No. 2 - Cu M'gar District Irrigation Branch (under Dak Lak Irrigation Works Management Company Limited), the canal collapsed and broke on the evening of February 6, due to weak ground and poor construction quality.
Mr. Ma Nhuoc (Sut M'ru village) said that when the canal broke, the whole village was very worried because the rice was in the flowering stage and without water, there would be great damage. Currently, the canal has been temporarily repaired, but in the long term, it could continue to break at any time.
Regarding the cause of the canal break, Mr. Ma Nhuoc informed that there is an underground water source flowing down from the hill below the canal, which could be the cause of the incident.
Talking to VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Ba Huan, Head of Production Cluster No. 2 - Cu M'gar District Irrigation Branch said that in 2020, this canal was built and put into use, but the unit was not handed over, so now it is not known who built it, there are no project documents.
The broken canal section is currently nearly 10 meters long. If there is no early solution, it will collapse hundreds of meters. If this happens, it will greatly affect the 20 hectares of rice fields downstream that are about to bear fruit of the people of Sut M'ru village.
"We have reported the situation to our superiors to find a solution," Mr. Huan added.
