On the morning of December 9th, the 10th Provincial People's Council of Dong Nai Province opened its 8th session (2021-2026 term), discussing many important issues related to socio -economic development.
One of the notable items on the agenda at the meeting was the proposal from the People's Committee of Dong Nai province regarding a draft resolution to assign the Provincial People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to the Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh Airport using the public-private partnership (PPP) method. The expanded metro line will pass through Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the documents submitted to the session, the metro line will be extended according to the plan, starting from station S0 (Tan Van), crossing the Dong Nai River, then following National Highway 1 to connect to station SC at the Provincial Administrative Center. From there, the line continues along the planned Bien Hoa – Long Thanh railway corridor, along road DT771, crossing the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh expressway, connecting to station SA, and then turning towards the railway lines leading to Long Thanh airport.
The expanded metro line is approximately 41km long, divided into 3 sections: S0 station – SC station (6.1km); SC station – SA station (28.2km); and the airport section (7.1km), running parallel to the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh metro line and the North – South high-speed railway.
The preliminary total investment is over 60,260 billion VND, of which compensation, support, and resettlement costs amount to approximately 4,323 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed in 2029.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, transportation connecting the province with Ho Chi Minh City currently relies primarily on road networks. With the rapid increase in traffic volume, routes such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51, and a series of main roads are frequently overloaded. Although many inter-regional connectivity projects such as expressways and ring roads have been and are being implemented, the infrastructure still does not meet actual needs, especially when Long Thanh Airport becomes operational.
Therefore, the province believes that the early implementation of large-scale transportation projects such as metro, high-speed rail, inter-regional overpasses, etc., is an urgent requirement to reduce travel time, increase urban connectivity, and shorten journeys between the two major airports in the country.
