On the morning of December 9, the 10th term People's Council of Dong Nai province opened its 8th session (term 2021-2026), discussing many important contents related to socio -economic development.
One of the notable contents at the meeting was the presentation of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee on the draft resolution agreeing to assign the Provincial People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to the Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh Airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) method. The extended metro line will pass through Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the documents submitted to the meeting, the metro line will be extended according to the planning, starting from station S0 (Tan Van), crossing the Dong Nai River, then following National Highway 1 to connect to station SC at the Provincial Administrative Center. From here, the line will continue to follow the Bien Hoa - Long Thanh railway planning corridor, along DT771 road, crossing the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway, connecting to station SA and then turning in the direction of railway lines going to Long Thanh airport.
The extended metro line is about 41km long, divided into 3 sections: S0 station - SC station 6.1km long; SC station - SA station 28.2km long; the section to the airport 7.1km long, running parallel to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro line and the North - South high-speed railway.
The total preliminary investment is over 60,260 billion VND, of which compensation, support and resettlement costs are about 4,323 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed in 2029.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, traffic connecting the province with Ho Chi Minh City currently depends mainly on roads. In the context of rapidly increasing traffic volume, routes such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51 and a series of main roads are often overloaded. Although many inter-regional connection projects such as expressways, belt roads, etc. have been and are being implemented, the infrastructure still cannot meet actual needs, especially when Long Thanh airport comes into operation.
Therefore, the province believes that the early implementation of large-scale transport projects such as metro, high-speed railway, inter-regional overpasses, etc. is an urgent requirement to reduce travel time, increase urban connectivity and shorten the journey between the two major airports of the country.
