Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that in his opening speech at the 14th ASEAN Connectivity Symposium with the theme “Promoting Connectivity towards Turning ASEAN into a Growth Hub” in Indonesia on November 8.

“Not only policy making but also practical implementation so that infrastructure and connectivity in ASEAN can be realized immediately,” he stressed.

The senior Indonesian minister said that ASEAN countries are also committed to developing the ASEAN Connectivity Agenda after 2025 as part of the ASEAN Community after 2025. The development of this document will be based on the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo -Pacific (AOIP).

He hopes that the ASEAN Connectivity Agenda after 2025 will align action plans with the local currency transaction (LCT) cooperation mechanism as well as the plan to develop a common electric vehicle ecosystem in the region.

Speaking at the conference, President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) Tetsuya Watanabe said that ASEAN connectivity has proven to be the foundation for ASEAN's post-Covid-19 recovery strategy, with policy coordination, resource pooling and partnership formation to enhance the region's resilience.

Meanwhile, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General in charge of the Economic Community Satvinder Singh said that ASEAN needs to continue building capacity and strengthening the regional foundation to maximize the benefits of ASEAN connectivity and the ASEAN Economic Community.

According to official statistics, the ASEAN economy has achieved positive results over the past decade with an average growth rate of 4-5%. In 2022, ASEAN growth reached 5.7% and is forecast to continue to achieve positive results this year.

ASEAN is the 5th largest economy, 4th largest exporter and the second largest foreign investment attraction region in the world .
