Connecting trade and promoting agricultural products of ethnic minorities in the North

The festival of products of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the North is not only a trade promotion activity but also an occasion to honor cultural identity and revive new vitality for highland products.

On the morning of November 14, at the Lai Chau Provincial Trade Center, the Northern Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas Product Festival 2025 officially opened, marking the beginning of a series of regional trade promotion activities. The program was organized by the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) in coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade of Lai Chau province.

The event attracted the participation of many northern mountainous provinces such as Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Cao Bang, Bac Ninh , Son La and Tuyen Quang.

Bringing ethnic minority agricultural products to e-commerce platforms

The event is not only a trade promotion activity but also an opportunity to honor cultural identity and revive new vitality for highland products. The festival takes place within the framework of the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period, while responding to the National Great Unity Day (November 18) and welcoming the success of the 15th Lai Chau Provincial Party Congress.

In addition to displaying products, the festival also organized a conference to connect trade between suppliers in the Northwest region and distribution and export enterprises. Many large units participated, including Saigon Co.op, Wincommerce, Central Retail, IMEX News and Qing Shan Sheng Shi (China).

A highlight of the festival was the livestream online sales session on the TikTok Hello Vietnam channel. This livestream session attracted the participation of leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lai Chau province, KOLs and typical suppliers. Here, many outstanding specialties of Lai Chau were introduced and sold directly to consumers nationwide such as An Ngan cordyceps, Thanh Xuan honey, smoked buffalo meat, Lai Chau ginseng tea, Duong Yen salmon floss, matcha tea and Sin Ho ginseng vermicelli.

Mr. Tran Van Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lai Chau province, commented: "This activity demonstrates a strong shift in digital transformation, helping to bring highland agricultural products directly to consumers, opening up a new direction in the consumption of local specialty products through e-commerce platforms."

Within the framework of the event, the Organizing Committee awarded the certificate of Typical Rural Industrial Products of Lai Chau province in 2025 to 13 excellent products in the province.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Lai Chau province, this voting and honoring contributes to encouraging rural industrial establishments to innovate technology, improve product quality, expand consumption markets, thereby promoting sustainable development of rural industry, associated with local raw material areas.

Support trade promotion for agricultural products of ethnic minorities

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Mr. Tran Huu Linh, Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), emphasized that the festival is an opportunity to promote typical products, honor regional cultural identities, promote cooperation, expand consumer markets, and contribute to realizing the Party and State's policy of socio-economic development in mountainous and remote areas.

In recent years, the development of the domestic market has always received special attention from the Party, the State and the Government. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has implemented many important programs to raise awareness and promote the consumption of ethnic minority products. These activities not only help increase people's income but also promote the beauty of regional culture to the community nationwide.

Mr. Tran Huu Linh affirmed: "The Domestic Market Department will continue to accompany, support information, market consulting, connect distribution systems, helping highland products gradually affirm their position, not only in the domestic market but also reach out to the international market."

On the local side, Mr. Giang A Tinh, Vice Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee, said that the province always pays attention to developing the production of goods of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. The provincial government has issued many policies and mechanisms to support the development of ethnic minority areas, encourage the development of geographical indications, traceability and trademarks of typical products.

Currently, Lai Chau is also actively implementing trade promotion and e-commerce activities to support businesses and cooperatives in promoting and connecting agricultural products of ethnic minorities to the distribution systems of provinces and cities.

The 2025 Northern Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Product Festival gathered 74 booths from businesses in the province and other localities. The presence of large distribution enterprises and corporations such as Central Retail Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trade Cooperatives, Wincommerce General Trading Services Joint Stock Company, IMEX NEWS Limited Liability Company, Qing Shan Sheng Shi Company... created great opportunities for featured products, OCOP products, traditional products, handicrafts, clean agricultural products, precious medicinal herbs... to be introduced and promoted.

The festival is not only an occasion to introduce and promote products but also a special opportunity for Lai Chau to promote the image, cultural beauty of ethnic minorities, tourism potential and its typical products to businesses, distribution and retail corporations, central agencies and other provinces. Thereby, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, towards a sustainable development future.
