International visitors to Vietnam increased by nearly 60%

Figures released this morning by the General Statistics Office show that international arrivals by air still dominate with more than 7.4 million arrivals, followed by road with more than 1.26 million arrivals. Arrivals by sea are insignificant.

The number of visitors to Vietnam in the first half of the year reached 50% of the annual target of 17-18 million. Vietnam's peak international tourist season is from October to April, so the end of the year will be the time for the tourism industry to break through and accelerate.

South Korea remains the largest market sending visitors to Vietnam this year with 2.28 million arrivals in the first 6 months. China ranks second with nearly 1.9 million arrivals. The remaining markets in the top 10 include Taiwan, Japan, the US, Australia, India, Australia, Malaysia, and Cambodia.

In June, nearly 1.25 million international visitors came to Vietnam, down 10% compared to May, according to data from the General Statistics Office this morning. Of which, South Korea returned to the top 1 position as the largest market sending visitors with nearly 330,000 arrivals, taking the throne from the Chinese market with 286,000 arrivals. In May, 357,200 Chinese visitors came to Vietnam, while South Korean visitors reached 351,000 arrivals.

Also according to the General Statistics Office, service export turnover is estimated at 11.25 billion USD in the first two quarters, up 20% over the same period last year. Of which, tourism services are the highest at 6 billion USD, accounting for 53.1% of total turnover; up 40% over the same period last year.

Service import turnover in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 16.11 billion USD, up 22% over the same period last year, of which transportation services reached 6.9 billion USD (accounting for 42.7% of total turnover), up 18.6%; tourism services reached 4.9 billion USD (accounting for 30.4%), up 52.9%.
