During the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, Phu Quoc Island, the pearl of Vietnam, donned a vibrant spring-like appearance, becoming a destination for tens of thousands of international tourists. Spring flowers filled the streets, and elaborate New Year decorations created a lively festive scene against the backdrop of the blue sky and turquoise sea.
From February 14th to 18th (27th day of the 12th lunar month to the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year), Phu Quoc is estimated to have welcomed nearly 170,000 visitors, including over 51,000 international tourists. Meanwhile, An Giang province recorded approximately 554,000 visitors, with total tourism revenue estimated at over 1,290 billion VND.
Beyond simply relaxing, many tourists expressed their delight at experiencing the Vietnamese Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere for the first time. At prominent attractions such as Bach Dang Park, Dinh Cau, Hon Thom, Sunset Town (An Thoi), and Grand World Phu Quoc, the spring spirit permeated through Tet mascots, folk games, and traditional cultural activities.
"Vietnam has a truly special and interesting Tet holiday. Spring flowers bloom everywhere, and the atmosphere is very lively. I love the blue sea and golden sunshine in Phu Quoc during this time," shared Adila, a tourist from Kazakhstan.
Resorts are also proactively incorporating local culture into their guest programs. Mr. Subash Basnet, General Manager of World Hotels Long Beach Resort Phu Quoc, said that this year the resort is increasing activities to introduce traditional cuisine and folk games so that tourists can better understand Vietnamese Tet customs.
Notably, Phu Quoc is welcoming over 80 flights per day during this period. Besides sightseeing and relaxation, international tourists particularly enjoy night tours exploring semi-wild animals – a unique tourism product that adds color to their springtime trip to the island.
"Local authorities and tourism businesses are making thorough preparations to serve all the needs of domestic and international tourists visiting during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026," said Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the An Giang Provincial Department of Tourism.
With thorough preparation from the government and businesses, Phu Quoc is not only a familiar resort destination but is also becoming a place where international tourists can fully experience the atmosphere of Vietnamese Tet - vibrant, lively, and rich in cultural identity.
