Entering the Lunar New Year holiday, many high-end accommodations in tourist destinations have announced that they will soon be fully booked for the holiday.

Data from booking platforms Mustgo and Agoda shows that major tourist destinations in the southern region are "hot" during Tet. The top 5 destinations searched by domestic tourists for the holiday from the first to the third day of Tet (February 10-12) include Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Vung Tau, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City. This result was surveyed based on the number of searches by Vietnamese tourists from January 21 to February 4.

In Phu Quoc, some resorts and 5-star hotels were fully booked during the first three days of the new year, such as Best Western Premier Sonasea Phu Quoc Resort, Seashells Phu Quoc Hotel & Spa, JW Marriott Phu Quoc, and New World Phu Quoc Resort. Other international and domestic 5-star hotels had occupancy rates ranging from 80-90%. Hotels with large room inventories such as Wyndham Grand Phu Quoc and Wyndham Garden Grandworld Phu Quoc also reached occupancy rates of around 60% during this period.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Thao, Commercial Director of Mustgo, commented that Phu Quoc is attracting a lot of international visitors, so the room occupancy rate at 5-star resorts is high. The number of domestic visitors accounts for about 20%.

According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation, on February 8 (29th of Lunar New Year), there were 12 international flights to Phu Quoc from Taiwan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. At the end of January, according to VnExpress , Phu Quoc tourists were mainly foreigners, staying in the north and south of the island - the two areas where most of the island's high-end resorts are concentrated.

In Nha Trang, many high-end accommodations are fully booked or only have some room categories available such as InterContinental Nha Trang, The Empyrean Hotel Nha Trang, Best Western Premier Marvella Nha Trang, Movenpick Resort Cam Ranh.

In Da Lat, the city's Department of Culture and Information reported that hotels that meet star ratings are estimated to have reached 65-70% occupancy from the 2nd to the 8th day of Tet (February 11-17). Meanwhile, data from Mustgo shows that the city's high-end hotels began to be fully booked from the 3rd day of Tet, such as Colline Da Lat, MerPerle Da Lat and Golf Valley Da Lat. During the first two days of the year, the occupancy rate of high-end hotels reached 50-80%.

In Phan Thiet, two resorts including Movenpick Phan Thiet and Radisson Resort Phan Thiet are almost fully booked from February 12 to February 14 (the 3rd to 5th day of Tet). Before that, room occupancy fluctuated at 50%.

According to information from Da Nang International Airport, from February 8 to 14, about 894 flights arrived in Da Nang, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year. During Tet, the city is expected to welcome three cruise ships to Tien Sa port with a total of 3,400 Chinese visitors. All three ships will stay one night at the port.

The Da Nang Department of Tourism forecasts that the room occupancy rate of 4-5 star and equivalent tourist accommodation establishments is estimated at 50-55%, while that of 3-star hotels and below is estimated at 25-30%. However, there are still some hotels with room occupancy rates above 60% during this Tet holiday such as Grand Mercure (87%), Grand Tourane (85%), Peninsula (93%), Rosamia (78%), Diamond Sea (66%).

"We see that the number of Korean tourists is shifting from Da Nang to Nha Trang and Da Lat," said Ms. Thao, adding that this is not the best time of year to travel to Da Nang.

In the northern region, Mustgo representative said Sa Pa is still the top choice with 100% occupancy rate in some 5-star hotels from the second day of Tet onwards. During the first two days of the holiday, people in the northern provinces mainly stayed at home, so the room occupancy rate in many hotels was only over 30%, few establishments filled more than 60% of rooms.

Northern coastal destinations have average occupancy rates due to the cold sea season. In the 5-star cruise segment in Ha Long and Lan Ha Bays, last-minute bookings still have many options.
