Opening of the film screening program celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Party: Screening of the classic film "Until We Meet Again"

On the morning of January 14th, at the Ngoc Khanh Cinema (523 Kim Ma, Giang Vo, Hanoi), the Vietnam Film Institute held the opening ceremony of its film screening program to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, beginning with the screening of the classic feature film "Until We Meet Again" – a representative work of Vietnamese Revolutionary Cinema.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Le Thi Ha, Director of the Vietnam Film Institute, emphasized, "In the joyful atmosphere of the whole country looking forward to the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnam Film Institute is organizing a film screening program to welcome the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The Film Institute considers this a key cultural activity with profound political significance, demonstrating the positive, proactive, practical response and the unique identity of the national moving image archive unit under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism."

"We selected four feature films and six animated films to be screened in the program. These are works that not only possess high artistic value, having won numerous prestigious film awards both domestically and internationally, but also have the power to move generations of viewers and created a sensation upon their release," Ms. Ha said.

Through the lens of authentic, vivid, and poetic art, talented Vietnamese filmmakers... The film screening program promises to bring audiences intense emotions, resonance, and pride in the continuous flow of historical tradition: from the resounding Autumn Revolution of 1945, after the signing of the Geneva Accords in 1954, to the day of national reunification on April 30, 1975. These historical moments will be presented to the audience sequentially through the films "Until We Meet Again," "August Star," "The 17th Parallel Day and Night," and concluding the program with "Tunnels: The Sun in the Darkness." This film project is launched on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. Along with that is the message conveyed: In any circumstances, the people always maintain their unwavering trust and love for the glorious Party.

The program opens with the film "Until We Meet Again" (110 minutes), produced by the Vietnam Feature Film Studio in 1974 and directed by Tran Vu. The film tells the story of the tumultuous love between Net, a girl from Kinh Bac, and Hai Chi, a Quan Ho folk singer. Their love blossomed amidst the smooth Quan Ho melodies of their homeland, and followed them to the distant battlefield with unwavering loyalty and devotion. The work blends the plight of the suffering Vietnamese people with the fate of the entire nation. Only when the country is liberated can the happiness of every individual be complete. Through its narrative technique of flashbacks, along with many touching details and subtle acting that portrays the psychological depth of the characters and the story, "Until We Meet Again" retains its original ideological and artistic value after more than half a century since its creation. The film won the Golden Lotus Award and many other important awards at the 3rd Vietnam Film Festival (1975), and was also awarded the official prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Czechoslovakia) in 1976.

The choice to screen "Until We Meet Again" on the opening day not only demonstrates respect for the revolutionary cinematic heritage but also contributes to spreading historical and cultural values, patriotism, and the aspiration for independence and freedom – core values ​​that have made the Vietnamese nation strong throughout history.

With utmost focus and effort, the Vietnam Film Institute has meticulously prepared to the best of its ability, hoping that the film screening program will attract a large audience. This will contribute to spreading and further inspiring the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the cause of defending and building the nation, along with absolute faith in the Party's leadership in the process of reform, international integration, and leading the country into a new era of progress. At the same time, it will add another meaningful activity to the series of vibrant cultural and artistic events taking place throughout the country to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam .
