The tournament, held from May 23rd to June 9th at Tien Son Sports Arena and My Khe Beach Park, brought together outstanding young wrestling talents from Asia to compete in four categories: freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women's wrestling, and U17 beach wrestling.
This is the second consecutive year that Vietnam has hosted the World Wrestling Federation (UWW) continental wrestling championship, following the success of the tournament held in Vung Tau in 2025.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tao Viet Hai, said that continuously hosting continental and world-level wrestling tournaments not only affirms Vietnam and Da Nang's capacity to organize international sporting events, but also demonstrates the strong development of high-performance sports and the city's orientation towards international integration.
According to Mr. Hai, just two weeks ago, Da Nang successfully hosted the 2026 World Beach Wrestling Championships, leaving a very positive impression on international friends regarding the organization, hospitality, and professional sporting environment. That success further motivated the city to host the Asian Age Group Wrestling Championships this year.
"The tournament is not only a competition for top young talents in Asia, but also an environment for athletes to interact, learn from each other, improve their professional skills, and foster a spirit of solidarity and friendship," Mr. Hai emphasized.

Within the framework of the tournament, Da Nang also co-hosted the final round of the Asian U17 Beach Wrestling Championships – an event that qualifies for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. This is considered an important milestone, contributing to raising the status of the tournament and affirming the capacity of this central coastal city to organize international sporting events.
One of the highlights of this year's tournament is the continuous 18-day series of events featuring a range of continental-level UWW competitions such as U23, U17, beach wrestling, grappling, pankration, and amateur MMA. This is considered the most intensive UWW event schedule ever held in Asia.
In addition, this year's tournament also marks a new milestone for Vietnamese wrestling, as just one year after wrestler Pham Huynh Minh Hieu's historic gold medal win in Vung Tau 2025, Vietnam will continue to host the Asian Beach Wrestling Championships U17 right on My Khe beach on June 1st.
With over 1,000 athletes from 25 countries and two world-class venues, the entire tournament will be streamed live on the UWW+ platform via uww.org, reaching millions of viewers globally.

According to the organizing committee, hosting six consecutive UWW tournaments demonstrates the Asian Wrestling Federation's confidence in Vietnam's organizational capabilities. It also provides an opportunity to promote Da Nang's image as a dynamic, friendly, safe, and integrated city to the international community.
"We aim to make Da Nang the premier wrestling destination in Asia every summer, while also creating opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to partner with elite sports," a representative from the organizing committee shared.
With the spirit of "Unity - Friendship - Nobility," the tournament is expected to deliver exciting competitions of high professional quality, while also contributing to the stronger development of youth wrestling in the Asian region in the future.
