The Trang An Festival is a traditional annual festival held to commemorate and pay tribute to Saint Quy Minh Dai Vuong, one of the deities worshipped in folk beliefs. He was one of three brothers, also generals, who were canonized as saints: Tan Vien, Cao Son, and Quy Minh. They were instrumental in defending the Nam Son pass, one of the four Hoa Lu fortresses, protecting the country during the reign of the 18th Hung King.
The Trang An Festival is also known as the Forest Opening Ceremony, based on the belief that the forest is closed year-round, and people are absolutely forbidden from exploiting it. Only on the 17th day of the 3rd lunar month are people allowed to enter the forest for controlled exploitation.
