Turning terraced fields into vibrant cultural spaces

Comrade Nguyen Trung Ngoc, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang province
Terraced fields in Tuyen Quang are not only a great production work of ethnic minorities, but also a unique cultural heritage that has been recognized as a national monument. This is a valuable asset that needs to be preserved and promoted in association with sustainable tourism development. In recent years, the province has implemented many programs and projects to honor the value of terraced fields, while developing typical tourism products, in which community tourism and experiencing the golden season have become attractive highlights.
In the coming time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to advise the province on developing new products, promoting images, training human resources and improving service quality. At the same time, it is necessary to preserve the cultural identity of the community, protect the landscape and environment, and raise people's awareness in heritage conservation. The goal is to turn terraced fields into a vibrant cultural space, bringing unique experiences to tourists, contributing to improving people's lives and affirming the local sustainable tourism brand.
Unique farming knowledge

Mr. Lai Quoc Tinh, Chairman of Tuyen Quang Province Tourism Association
Terraced fields carry many layers of profound cultural significance in the lives of the highland people. It is not only a unique farming knowledge, a vivid demonstration of the wisdom and enduring adaptation of ethnic communities to nature, but also a vivid reflection of the daily life and spirituality of the people. The rice harvest seasons are closely linked to local customs and festivals, especially the crop praying ceremony and the new rice celebration. Each terraced field is a layer of memory, a thread connecting people with their ancestors and the village.
That lasting indigenous cultural value is the strength that needs to be preserved and spread through sustainable tourism exploitation and responsible tourism. In which the entire political system and people participate, focusing on investing in upgrading infrastructure, services, planning tourism development areas according to local advantages, building unique and attractive experiential tourism products to attract tourists.
Main tourism products
Comrade Ma Quy Don, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hong Thai commune
Hong Thai commune currently has 27 hectares of terraced fields, concentrated in Khau Trang village. To exploit tourism associated with local economic development, the commune government has proactively linked tourism, annually organizing golden season festivals scheduled for the first week of October, including: tea tasting, rice harvesting, paragliding, organizing fairs, "living with the Dao" experience tours, embroidery, beeswax painting on traditional costumes...
Thanks to the right and accurate direction, in Hong Thai commune, tourism products from terraced fields are increasingly becoming the main product, with strengths, diversity, combining the exploitation of many types of products. These include community tourism, resorts, eco-tourism, adventure sports, attracting a large number of tourists and many investment projects to the localities.
Image promotion support
Mr. Trieu Menh Kinh, Director of Nam Hong Community Tourism Cooperative, Thong Nguyen Commune
Nam Hong village, Thong Nguyen commune is famous for its picturesque terraced fields. Realizing that this is a potential for tourism development, more than 10 years ago, I started building a homestay to welcome guests to see the terraced fields; self-study English, learn how to promote on digital platforms, and tell cultural stories of the Dao people to tourists. Currently, the cooperative has 17 bungalows, a community guesthouse, creating stable jobs for more than 20 local tour guides, welcoming thousands of tourists each year.
Currently, the Cooperative is expanding its connection with eco-tourism tours in the Northeast region, coordinating the development of new tourism products. We hope to continue to receive support from all levels, sectors, and local authorities, especially in promoting the image and improving service quality, to make Nam Hong an even more prominent destination.
"Savings" for future generations
Mr. Trieu Choi Hin, Tan Phong village, Ho Thau commune
My family has 0.7 hectares of terraced fields, which have been cultivated by three generations. What I hope most is that my descendants will continue, preserve and promote the legacy left by their ancestors. Because each field not only contains the effort and intelligence to produce rice to feed the family, but is also a priceless cultural heritage of the whole community, opening up opportunities to get rich right on our homeland.
I believe that when combining the value of farming with tourism, when turning natural beauty into a unique cultural product, terraced fields will become a "reserve" for future generations, helping descendants not only have enough to eat and wear, but also hold their heads high and be proud in front of friends from all over the world.
