Located in Thung Nham tourist area (Ninh Binh), But cave is about 500m long, about 20m wide, and about 1.5m deep. This is a dark and flooded cave, surrounded by overlapping mountain ranges, inside is shaped like a semicircular stone pipe.

In the past, Buddha Cave was the only road leading to a fertile valley.
During years of famine and crop failure, local people risked their lives to cross the dense forests and towering cliffs of Tuong Mountain - a mountain nearly 200m high, considered a solid natural wall surrounding and protecting the southwest of the 10th century capital Hoa Lu - to enter the valley in search of food.

However, after a major flood, local people were surprised to discover the cave was deep. Because of fear of darkness and danger, very few people dared to go deep into the cave.
A representative of Thung Nham tourist area said that according to legend, one day, people met an old man with white hair and beard who showed them how to go through the cave and brought them to the shore safely. But when they returned to thank the old man, he was nowhere to be found.

At that time, the villagers discovered that right where he had just stood, a majestic stone statue appeared, with the same shape as the old man. From then on, the villagers believed that the old man was the Buddha who had come down from heaven to save the people. From then on, the villagers wholeheartedly worshiped this stone statue and named this cave Buddha Cave.

Currently, in the middle of the cave is a stalactite block 1.5m high, 2m wide, shaped like a Buddha (Buddha meditating) appearing in a magical, shimmering space, making domestic and international tourists excited when visiting this place.
In addition, the cave also has stalactites shaped like elephants, peach trees, tulips... and hundreds of bats living there.

Visitors to But Cave will take a boat along the emerald green Ben Dang River. The space inside the cave seems to take visitors to a fairyland.

“The interesting thing about exploring the cave is that we have to sit in a rowboat and use flashlights to light it up. We can see with our own eyes the wild nature inside with many uniquely shaped stalactites.
In particular, many people were surprised when in the middle of the cave appeared a stalactite that resembled a meditating Buddha statue, bringing a pure and mysterious look," tourist Trinh Van Dong shared.

It is known that Buddha Cave is located through Tuong Mountain, connecting Thung Nham Tourist Area and Thien Ha Cave, so many tourists can travel back and forth between the two sides.
