In the midst of the peach blossom village of Xuan Son hamlet, Co Dam commune, Mr. Hoang Dinh Tai (born in 1953) has chosen his own path by importing and cultivating yellow apricot blossoms to serve the market during Tet (Lunar New Year). At this time, more than 500 of his yellow apricot trees are beginning to bud, and are expected to bloom just in time for Tet.

These days, he's busy in the garden, tending to and pruning the leaves of his yellow apricot blossom trees.

Mr. Tai said: Due to unfavorable weather in 2025, typhoons No. 5 and No. 10 caused nearly 100 of his family's yellow apricot trees to be uprooted and beyond repair. Currently, there are more than 500 trees remaining in the garden, almost 6 years old. After years of diligent care, this year I am harvesting them en masse to bring income to my family during the Lunar New Year of 2026.

Hundreds of yellow apricot blossom trees are covered in buds.

According to Mr. Tai, Tet is still almost a month away, but many customers have already come to his apricot blossom garden to choose their favorite trees and place deposits in advance. He sells each yellow apricot blossom tree for an average price of 1.5-2 million VND, with some trees costing twice as much depending on size and shape.

Yellow apricot blossoms symbolize good fortune, happiness, and peace in the new year, so many people choose to display them during the Lunar New Year. With the quantity mentioned, if all the apricot blossoms in the garden are sold, he expects to earn over 700 million VND by the end of the year.

Besides the yellow apricot blossom trees, this year Mr. Hoang Dinh Tai has also boldly introduced the Osmanthus tree to be the first to be planted in this area. This is a new direction to diversify the types of flowers to serve market demand, especially during the Lunar New Year.

Through research on social media, in early October 2025, Mr. Tai spent nearly 100 million VND to buy more than 350 Osmanthus trees from the North to plant. Osmanthus trees are ornamental plants, popular among people because of their pleasant fragrance; in feng shui, they symbolize good luck and attract wealth.

The white osmanthus flowers have a delicate fragrance.

“ After more than four months of care, the Osmanthus tree has proven easy to grow, suitable for the local soil, thriving and blooming profusely. Osmanthus trees typically bloom from October to March of the lunar calendar each year, making them popular choices for Tet celebrations, ” Mr. Tai said.

Each osmanthus tree, about 1.5 to 2 meters tall, is sold by him for 500,000 to 600,000 VND. Several customers have already bought them to plant in pots as decorations for Tet (Lunar New Year).

According to Mr. Tai, the Osmanthus tree is still relatively new to the province, so many people are unaware of it. His family is actively promoting the Osmanthus tree on various channels, especially social media, to sell it during the Tet holiday and increase their income.
