Accordingly, at the program, the medical team and doctors of Da Nang Oncology Hospital will ask about medical history, conduct a general examination; perform a rectal examination, test for hidden blood in the stool, and perform a colonoscopy; and provide consultation, health education , and treatment instructions at a medical facility if necessary. Previously, Da Nang Oncology Hospital had implemented a colorectal cancer screening program for 500 residents of Hoa Khanh ward.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), colorectal cancer accounts for about 10% of all new cancer cases each year. The Vietnamese Ministry of Health also said that colorectal cancer ranks fourth among the most common cancers, with about 15,000 new cases each year. However, the early detection rate is only about 30%, due to a lack of awareness of the disease and limited cancer screening at the grassroots level.
