At serious landslide sites, hundreds of tons of mud and rocks were leveled and cleared to both sides of the road by construction units using specialized machinery. The cleanup work was carried out urgently and vigorously day and night to ensure traffic flow soon.
According to the report of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the Investor of the North-South Expressway Expansion Project, Eastern section La Son - Hoa Lien, at the end of October, due to the impact of storms No. 12 and 13 and widespread heavy rain, the entire route had landslides at 21 locations, with a volume of about 146,000 m3 and a cracked road surface at Km50 (about 70 m long).
Up to now, the landslide clearance work has been basically completed, and traffic can now move normally. However, the Km42+700 location still has the potential risk of further landslides, so it is temporarily limited to one lane and is being handled.

At Km50+700 to Km50+800, a landslide occurred on the negative slope, damaging part of the road surface and causing the retaining wall on the negative slope to collapse. Currently, Larsen IV piles have been installed to support the roadbed on the positive slope and a temporary road has been built with cement concrete to ensure two-way traffic.
In the long term, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board proposed a detailed survey of the terrain, geology, and hydrology to select a stable solution. In particular, the temporary traffic guarantee plan is to install two rows of piles within the landslide area, keeping the roadbed about 9m wide from the edge of the positive slope ditch to make a temporary road to serve the construction process. The long-term adjustment design plan is to dig up the entire roadbed in the landslide area and replace it with a viaduct.

At the inspection of the entire La Son - Hoa Lien route on the afternoon of November 14, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van listened to reports at locations with high potential risks and basically agreed with the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board. The Deputy Minister of Construction assigned the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board to coordinate with agencies under the Ministry of Construction to continue surveying and researching suitable options to report to the ministry. In addition, the project investor and contractors need to continue to speed up the progress of handling and clearing landslides on the route, ensuring traffic safety for vehicles on the entire route.
The North-South Expressway expansion project in the East, La Son - Hoa Lien section, has a length of about 65 km, a total investment of more than 3,010 billion VND, started in May 2025 and is expected to be completed in January 2026. To date, the construction output has reached more than 1,174 billion, reaching 46.2% of the contract value. However, the historic flood at the end of October 2025 caused landslides and serious damage along the entire route. Currently, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board is calculating and reporting to the Ministry of Construction to approve additional funding and arrange capital sources to handle the damage caused by the heavy rains...
