The Food Safety Department reported that, according to information received, several residents in Trang Bang ward, Tay Ninh province, were hospitalized suspected of food poisoning after eating mushrooms picked from their garden, with symptoms such as extreme fatigue and numbness in the limbs. The patients are being monitored and treated at medical facilities.
Given the situation, the Food Safety Department requests the Tay Ninh Provincial Department of Health to urgently direct hospitals where patients are being treated to focus resources on food poisoning patients to prevent any impact on their health and lives.
Strengthen the dissemination and education of food safety knowledge, measures to ensure food safety, and prevention of food poisoning caused by natural toxins to the community (using ethnic languages in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, and mountainous regions), especially advising people to absolutely not harvest, catch, trade, or use unfamiliar plants and animals that pose a risk of poisoning, such as wild mushrooms, unfamiliar wild plants, roots, and fruits, unfamiliar insects, etc.; pay attention to guiding safe processing methods for traditional or customary local products.
The Food Safety Department requests that local authorities strengthen communication and guidance to the public and production and business establishments in their areas to ensure food safety conditions, strictly control the origin and source of food ingredients, and ensure hygiene throughout the entire process of food preparation, processing, and transportation.
Specifically, it involves guiding people to choose and use food that is safe, properly stored, and within its expiration date; and instructing people to go immediately to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment when symptoms of food poisoning appear.
Simultaneously, direct health units in the area to prepare contingency plans, standby forces, equipment, supplies, and chemicals to promptly address and minimize the impact should food poisoning occur. Strictly implement the contents of Directive No. 38/CT-TTg dated October 11, 2024, of the Prime Minister on strengthening the prevention of food poisoning; and Official Letter No. 2633/BYT-ATPP dated April 30, 2025, of the Ministry of Health on strengthening food safety, preventing and combating counterfeit food and food poisoning.
