However, in the context of contemporary development, the question is: How to fully "awaken" this great historical and cultural value, turning Dien Khanh Temple of Literature from a "relic" into a "living heritage", an important and sustainable cultural destination?
Identifying historical and cultural values
To find a solution to the problem of preserving and promoting the Temple of Literature, on October 12, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province successfully organized an in-depth scientific workshop with the theme "Cultural and historical values of the Dien Khanh Temple of Literature".
The workshop attracted the participation of many scientists, cultural and historical research experts from research institutes, universities and heritage management agencies across the country.

At the workshop, the presentations clearly affirmed the importance of Dien Khanh Temple of Literature in the system of Vietnamese Temples of Literature.
Dien Khanh Temple of Literature is not only a place to worship Confucius but also closely associated with the education and examination system under the Nguyen Dynasty (once an "International" facility sponsored by the state). In particular, the relic still preserves valuable artifacts such as 33 royal decrees and the "Thach bi dinh" stone stele (1858) recording the names of successful candidates, creating unparalleled historical value.

Dien Khanh Temple of Literature becomes "living heritage"
However, the reality of preserving and promoting the value of the Temple of Literature also poses challenges. According to MSc. Nguyen Thi Hong Tam, Head of the Department of Professional Affairs of the Center for Cultural Heritage Conservation of Khanh Hoa province, the current status of the Temple of Literature is mainly a reconstruction since 1959 on the old foundation, with a smaller scale and simpler than the traditional architecture of the Nguyen Dynasty.
This requires in-depth research on the original architecture to guide restoration and embellishment work to ensure historical accuracy while remaining in harmony with the contemporary context.

The general goal is to harmonize heritage conservation and tourism development, in which conservation must be the foundation for maintaining sustainable values. The activities "Encouraging learning and talent" and the "Learning about cultural heritage" contest are currently promoting effectiveness, encouraging the spirit of learning.
Notably, Dr. Nguyen Ho Phong (Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture) presented a new perspective, emphasizing the central role of the community in preserving and promoting heritage associated with cultural tourism development.
He proposed breakthrough solutions such as building a co-management model, creating cultural tourism products, applying digital technology and establishing a transparent benefit-sharing mechanism.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Vice Chairman of the National Cultural Heritage Council, emphasized: The scientific workshop on Dien Khanh Temple of Literature has provided a solid scientific basis for Khanh Hoa province to build a long-term plan to promote the heritage. The path to "awakening" the Dien Khanh Temple of Literature heritage requires a smooth combination of architectural restoration, promotion of intangible values (rituals, studiousness) and especially the active participation of the community.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Duc Cuong, President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, said: Dien Khanh Temple of Literature is not only a place of worship, but must become a "history classroom", a lively "cultural space", a place to educate the young generation about the tradition of studiousness and respect for teachers.

'Turning Dien Khanh Temple of Literature into a "living heritage" is not only a conservation responsibility but also a sustainable development strategy, contributing to enriching cultural identity and promoting the socio-economic development of Khanh Hoa,' Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Duc Cuong affirmed.
