Tourists visit and watch performances at the Po Sah Inư Tower historical site in Lam Dong province .
The system of cultural heritage sites, especially the Cham temples and towers, is not only a source of pride for the Cham people and local residents, but also a national cultural asset. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province, said that the locality has been implementing comprehensive projects to restore, renovate, and preserve relics to meet the cultural and religious needs of the people. Simultaneously, many attractive cultural tourism programs are being developed and organized at the Po Nagar Tower, Po Klong Garai Tower, etc., attracting tourists to visit and study the value of the heritage.
In Lam Dong province, according to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the locality currently has two Cham cultural heritage items included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage: the Katê Festival of the Cham people following Brahmanism and the Cham pottery making craft. The preservation and promotion of Cham cultural heritage values not only enrich and diversify the culture but also boost tourism development.
Looking ahead to 2030, Khanh Hoa aims to develop cultural and historical tourism products associated with Cham heritage in a sustainable manner, focusing on in-depth preservation combined with experiential tourism. The locality will strengthen cooperation with research institutes, universities, and tourism businesses to build unique cultural tourism products and promote the image of Cham culture to the region and internationally. Exploiting the value of Cham cultural heritage in conjunction with tourism development is expected to create a distinctive highlight for Khanh Hoa tourism; while also contributing to preserving and spreading the traditional cultural values of the Cham people in contemporary life.
Furthermore, connecting heritage preservation with tourism development is opening up a sustainable path for Lam Dong province's tourism industry, transforming traditional values into unique and attractive tourism products for both domestic and international visitors. Not only is it a place preserving the distinctive Cham culture, the Po Sah Inư Tower also boasts an ideal location for panoramic views of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet from above.
Capitalizing on its potential, the local tourism industry has implemented numerous solutions over the years to make Po Sah Inu Tower an indispensable cultural destination in the coastal region of Lam Dong province. Conservation and restoration of the ancient tower, as well as improvements to tourism infrastructure such as access roads, parking lots, lighting systems, landscaping, and experiential areas, have been prioritized and upgraded comprehensively.
Preserving Cham tower relics to safeguard heritage values and create tourism products is the current goal of local authorities. At the latest workshop summarizing methods for restoring Cham tower relics, organized by the Institute of Conservation of Monuments (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Mr. Dang Khanh Ngoc, Director of the Institute of Conservation of Monuments, stated that over the past half-century, many temples and towers have been reinforced and salvaged, preventing collapse and maintaining their existence to this day. However, the results of conservation are still modest compared to actual needs, as each relic has a different technical condition, requiring specific treatment methods.
Therefore, in order for the Cham cultural heritage to endure over time and to create a soft resource for sustainable tourism development, more investment is needed in the restoration and preservation of historical sites.
In fact, nowadays, tourism focused on exploring historical sites and cultural heritage has become a demand among tourists. If properly promoted and connected, Cham cultural heritage can not only help local tourism develop sustainably but also raise awareness of heritage preservation among individuals and communities.
