Tan Huong Agricultural Products and Food Processing Joint Stock Company (Cam Giang) is a prestigious enterprise in the agricultural sector, built by Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh. In the past, like other households in the locality, Mr. Menh and his wife's livelihood was growing carrots. Later, his family began collecting carrots from local people to trade for profit. However, this work was not always smooth, because if fresh products were not consumed in time, they would lose more than they gained.
Since the 90s of the last century, when many instant noodle products appeared on the market, Mr. Menh saw a business opportunity. In 1992, he opened a small factory to process dried carrots as raw materials for instant noodle seasoning. Gradually, he expanded the production scale and developed more dried agricultural products such as onions, green onions, ginger, chili, garlic, etc. To meet the production and business needs, in 2009, Mr. Menh established a business. Up to now, despite many difficulties and incidents, Tan Huong Agricultural and Food Processing Joint Stock Company is still operating stably, affirming its position as a key agricultural enterprise in Hai Duong. Not only consuming processed agricultural products domestically, Mr. Menh's company also connects and exports carrots to Korea, Japan, etc.
“If we do not process to create diversity in agricultural products, so that customers have more choices, agricultural products will remain in a vicious cycle of good harvest and low price,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tan Huong Agricultural and Food Processing Joint Stock Company.
Starting a business from the earthworms and clams of his hometown An Thanh (Tu Ky), Mr. Ha Van Bay did not stop at investing in production, improving productivity and output, but also nurtured the idea of developing processed products. According to Mr. Bay, earthworms are a specialty but are only available seasonally. Therefore, he always wants to find a new direction to meet market demand. In 2020, Mr. Bay began researching the processing of earthworms and clams. Initially, he applied freezing techniques so that consumers could use the products all year round. Once successful, he continued to research and launch many instant earthworm products, suitable for customer tastes.
When production and business activities progressed positively, in 2022, Mr. Bay established Ha Tien Crayfish Specialty Company Limited to enhance reputation and facilitate management and operation. In addition to the production area of more than 2 hectares, Mr. Bay's company also purchases unlimited Crayfish from farmers in the area if the quality is guaranteed. Each year, the enterprise supplies the market with about 30 tons of frozen Crayfish and more than 10 tons of deeply processed Crayfish. Currently, the company has 4 processed Crayfish products that have been recognized as meeting OCOP standards. Mr. Bay said: "In addition to the 5 processed Crayfish products that are being produced and sold stably, the company will soon launch 5 new products. We aim to produce products not only for domestic consumption but also for export."

Besides farmers who started from the fields, in Hai Duong there are also young people who dare to think, dare to do, and are determined to start a business from agriculture.
Because of his passion for organic agriculture, instead of choosing to do business in the industry oriented by his family, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (born in 1993, in Nam Sach town) established Viet Farm Joint Stock Company to try his hand at farming. Before deciding to establish an agricultural enterprise, Mr. Tuan Anh learned to be a farmer. Since 2016, Mr. Tuan Anh has rented land in An Lam commune (Nam Sach) to raise earthworms, grow vegetables, and raise chickens in an organic way. Organic agricultural products at the farm are supplied to schools in the province. To have a regular and steady source of goods, he also cooperates with clean production facilities in and outside the province. And the advantage of young people like Mr. Tuan Anh is that they are not easily satisfied with themselves. Mr. Tuan Anh shared: “Currently, cage fish farming in the province is very developed but there is no deep processing facility, consumption is still unstable. On the other hand, many places in the province have the potential to develop ecological agriculture associated with tourism but have not yet clearly defined. I am researching to develop the business in this direction.”
From the lessons
In recent times, Hai Duong has had incentives to attract investment in agriculture. Therefore, the number of agricultural enterprises in the area has developed but the scale is still small, not commensurate with the strengths and potentials. Besides the new faces who are enthusiastic, energetic, determined to commit and try their hand at this risky field, there are also enterprises that have become brands but still have to accept failure. A typical example is the decline of Hung Viet Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company (Gia Loc) - the pride of Hai Duong agriculture at one time. The head of the enterprise is Mr. Tang Xuan Truong, a real farmer, who started from farming but due to lack of management and operation skills, there are internal conflicts and lawsuits. This is a lesson for farmer entrepreneurs when facing fierce competition in the market.
Agriculture is a special industry, with large investments and high risks. If we are not quick and innovative, we will be left behind. In addition, most agricultural products directly affect the health of consumers, so we must produce them with our hearts. Only then can we create prestige and establish a position in the market.
In addition to experience and management skills, young people need useful information about the province's agriculture to have a development orientation. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh admitted that currently, information about production areas, agricultural support policies, etc. that he has access to is very limited. The goal he is aiming for really needs guidance from state management agencies. "We really want to be supported in terms of information to have a basis for assessment, calculation and planning of production and business strategies; at the same time, we are advised on the mechanisms and policies that the province is implementing and applying. Only then will young people be more confident in finding investment opportunities in the agricultural sector," Mr. Tuan Anh added.
