After working hours in the dragon fruit garden, many farmers in Ham My commune take the opportunity to go to the village cultural house to play football matches. Mr. Nguyen Tan Minh, a farmer in Ham My commune, said: “Except for days when it rains too heavily to go to the field, every afternoon we gather to practice. Those who know how to play teach those who don’t, learning together and improving our health. At the same time, through sports and meetings, we exchange farming methods, economic development, and information about family and social stories. All the hardships of daily life seem to be left behind, leaving only cheers and encouragement...”.
Taking a break after the exercise, the women in Ham My commune happily chatted: “Before, in the countryside, there was no concept of physical exercise and they were very reluctant to participate in cultural and artistic activities. Every day, after finishing their farm work, people would return home to clean their houses, have dinner, watch TV and go to bed early. But since the dragon fruit prices were high, and the Ham Kiem I and II Industrial Parks opened, people’s thinking, work attitude and quality of life have really changed. They pay more attention to their health and spiritual life.”
The sports movement has developed naturally in Ham Thuan Nam for about 10 years now, when the new rural construction has spread. From the establishment of teams and clubs, people have proactively contributed operating costs to the socialization of construction and upgrading of cultural and sports facilities. Thanks to that, people can choose sports suitable for their age, physical strength and the nature of their work, from volleyball, badminton, martial arts, aerobics, cycling, walking... In 100% of schools, facilities and equipment are invested in to ensure physicaleducation activities.
To facilitate the development of the movement and encourage young people and people to participate in training, the District People's Committee organizes mass sports competitions such as Olympic Running Day for the health of all people; men's and women's volleyball tournaments; badminton tournaments for workers, civil servants and laborers; Ta Cu mountain climbing competition; cycling race around Ta Cu... At the same time, it mobilizes localities and agencies to compete and exchange sports. However, it is understandable that at the 9th Provincial Sports Festival in 2022, the Ham Thuan Nam district sports delegation rose to 3rd place overall, after Phan Thiet City and Tanh Linh district, 4 places higher than the previous congress. This is a memorable congress, with a total of 15 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 23 bronze medals.
Promoting the achieved results, continuing to develop the mass sports movement widely among the people, Ham Thuan Nam district determined to continue to promote the implementation of the campaign "All people practice physical training following the example of great Uncle Ho" associated with the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", building new rural areas. At the same time, focusing on the work of discovering, training, and fostering talented athletes; enhancing the exploitation and effective use of the physical training facilities system from the grassroots level. Along with that, mobilizing social resources to invest in physical training facilities for physical training and sports development, consolidating the system of cultural and sports institutions...
Up to now, the whole district has 4 stadiums, 17 mini soccer fields, 20 volleyball courts, 1 Son Tra sports complex and dozens of mini soccer fields, gyms and yoga rooms.
