According to a document from the Ministry of Construction , the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway project has been added to the list of key national projects. At the same time, the Prime Minister assigned the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province to participate in the State Steering Committee for key national projects in the transport sector. Investment procedures and land clearance work should be expedited to strive for groundbreaking by May 19, 2026.
According to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway will be approximately 136km long, starting in Nguyen Nghiem commune, connecting with the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway, and ending at the existing Ho Chi Minh Highway. The route is planned to have 4 lanes, with a total estimated investment of approximately 44,355 billion VND.
The early completion of this expressway is considered particularly important in connecting the East-West axis of Quang Ngai province, which currently relies mainly on National Highway 24.
The completed expressway is expected to create momentum for regional connectivity, boost economic growth, and maximize the advantages from the Bo Y international border gate to the Dung Quat seaport.
