The investigative police agency has issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Tan Hien (born in 1999, owner of DANA FOOD Production and Trading Company Limited, No. 5 Nguyen Minh Chan Street, Hoa Khanh Ward, Da Nang City) to investigate the act of producing and trading counterfeit goods.
Authorities also imposed a travel ban on Do Thi Thuy Trang (born in 2000, Hien's wife) to facilitate the investigation.
Previously, the Da Nang City police force discovered many businesses trading and distributing dried seaweed (commonly known as seaweed jam) labeled as originating from Vietnam, supplied year-round at unusually low prices compared to the general market.
Meanwhile, domestically produced seaweed is only available seasonally, has limited production, and is more expensive than imported seaweed.
The Economic Police Department focused its investigation and discovered that DANA FOOD Production and Trading Co., Ltd. showed many irregularities in its production and business activities related to dried seaweed.

The investigation determined that the company had imported dried seaweed from China but falsely declared the product under the DANA FOOD brand as originating from Vietnam, in order to market it for consumption.
During simultaneous raids on the company's headquarters and warehouses, authorities seized over 7,000 counterfeit dried seaweed products of various types, along with tens of thousands of packaging materials, raw materials, and supplies used in the production and packaging of counterfeit goods.
The case is currently under further investigation to ensure it is handled strictly in accordance with the law.
