A large-scale forest fire broke out in Tan Lieu Ward ( Bac Giang City). The initial cause was determined to be that people burned the ground cover after logging in planted forests, causing the fire to spread to other areas.
On the evening of January 11, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Huu Dinh, Vice Chairman of Bac Giang City People's Committee said that a large-scale forest fire had just occurred on Nham Bien mountain. The initial cause was determined to be due to people burning the ground cover after logging planted forests, leading to the fire spreading to other areas.
Accordingly, on the evening of January 10, a large forest fire broke out in a production forest in Tan Lieu Ward, Bac Giang City. Upon receiving the information, forces including police, army, forest rangers, militia and people from some neighboring wards and communes were mobilized to put out the fire.
"Due to the thick layer of ground cover, many branches, leaves, grass, dry trees, combined with dry weather and strong winds, on the night of January 10 and early morning of January 11, the fire spread to the forest area in Nham Bien ward (in the same city of Bac Giang). We are currently synthesizing the total area of forest burned," Mr. Dinh informed.
According to Mr. Dinh, by the afternoon of January 11, the fire was completely contained. The fire damaged the orchard and some forestry areas. Strong winds blew ash and smoke into residential areas, affecting the lives and activities of local people.
"The production forest area has been exploited by local people before. We still request that the authorities continue to assign people to guard the areas to have timely solutions to prevent the fire from spreading again.
