Dismissing rumors about eliminating small denomination banknotes.
The State Bank of Vietnam affirms that the above information is inaccurate and has no legal basis.
The issuance, management, and circulation of Vietnamese currency are carried out by the State Bank of Vietnam in accordance with legal regulations, based on fully meeting the payment needs of the economy , in line with social realities, and ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and businesses.
The State Bank of Vietnam requests that organizations and individuals refrain from posting or sharing inaccurate information regarding the planned elimination of banknotes ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 VND. Violators will be dealt with according to the law.
There have been many instances of false rumors circulating about the denominations of currency.
Previously, there had been numerous rumors regarding the issuance of large-denomination banknotes, which the State Bank of Vietnam subsequently denied.
As in 2013, the State Bank of Vietnam affirmed that there was no plan to change the currency and no changes would be made to the currency currently in circulation. The reason, according to the State Bank, is that the value of the Vietnamese Dong (VND) is quite stable, and the structure of the currency in circulation remains appropriate.
The State Bank of Vietnam also has no intention of issuing a 1 million dong banknote.
