GO! Hue Supermarket opens to welcome customers normally even on days of heavy rain and floods

Abundant supply, stable prices

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, during the recent days of heavy floods in the area, the commodity market was basically stable, supply and demand were balanced, and there were no major price fluctuations. Enterprises, business establishments and supermarket systems proactively implemented plans to stockpile goods before the heavy rains, thereby promptly meeting people's needs in recent days.

At large supermarkets such as Aeon Mall, GO! Hue, Co.opmart..., goods are always replenished promptly, ensuring abundance and variety. Essential items such as rice, instant noodles, drinks, processed foods, milk, cooking oil, sugar, fish sauce... are all available, with clearly listed prices.

Ms. Pham Thi Thu Trang, Director of GO! Hue Supermarket, said that right from the beginning of the flood season, the supermarket had prepared 30% more goods than usual, and at the same time organized flexible transportation to avoid disruptions in the supply chain. “During the recent flood days, the supermarket was still open as usual but the number of customers decreased. However, from the morning of October 31, the number of customers coming to the supermarket returned to normal. “During the flood days, we did not increase the prices of any items, and at the same time, we also implemented price stabilization for many items for people in flood-affected areas,” Ms. Trang said.

According to market records on the afternoon of October 31, the price of rice on the market fluctuated between 15,000 and 17,000 VND/kg, specialty rice around 28,000 VND/kg; pork 130,000 and 170,000 VND/kg, beef 220,000 and 300,000 VND/kg, chicken 100,000 and 140,000 VND/kg; chicken eggs 40,000 and 48,000 VND/dozen; vegetables fluctuated between 15,000 and 40,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Some green vegetables and fresh foods increased slightly due to heavy rains, which disrupted harvesting and transportation. However, this situation was only temporary and did not cause serious shortages. “The roads were flooded for a few days, making transportation difficult, so vegetables were a bit more expensive, but now they are back to normal,” said Le Thi Hong, a trader at An Cuu market.

Food items such as sugar, cooking oil, fish sauce, MSG... remain stable in price: sugar 22,000 VND/kg, cooking oil 55,000 VND/liter, fish sauce 25,000-75,000 VND/bottle. Household gas price 440,000-470,000 VND/tank depending on the brand; gasoline is stable at 20,520-20,880 VND/liter and 19,580-20,010 VND/liter.

Stabilize the market, ensure people's lives

After the weather cleared up, local markets such as Dong Ba, Ben Ngu, An Cuu… reopened. Although some low-lying areas were still being cleaned up, trading activities began to take place quite busily. Small traders were encouraged to list prices and not sell above the prescribed level.

Exchange of goods at Dong Ba market before heavy rain and flood

Mr. Dang Huu Phuc, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: “We have directed businesses, supermarket systems and markets to proactively supply, especially essential goods. At the same time, we will coordinate with the Market Management force to strengthen inspection and strictly handle cases of speculation and illegal price increases. If cases of hoarding and arbitrary price increases after the flood are discovered, we will strictly handle them.

Also during the period before, during and after the flood, the Market Management Force regularly inspected and monitored, especially at retail outlets, to ensure that people could buy goods at the right price and quality. In addition, temporary mobile markets were organized in deeply flooded areas, helping people in isolated areas to access essential goods faster.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha (Duc Ward Residential Group, Thuan Hoa Ward) said that although there were times when the water level rose during the rainy season, the prices of vegetables, fruits, food, and seafood traded at the markets remained the same as usual, with no arbitrary price increases.

With close coordination between authorities, businesses and traders, consumers feel secure when buying goods during the flood season. Many people now no longer have the concept of having to stock up on food for the rainy and flood days like in previous years.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinates to bring goods to support flood-affected areas.

According to the leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade, the stable commodity market in Hue City after the flood is the result of proactive and coordinated efforts from the preparation stage to the implementation stage. Currently, the local floods are still complicated; at the same time, it is also the time to enter the last months of the year, consumer demand will increase sharply. Therefore, businesses, units and localities need to continue to closely monitor the situation, proactively plan supplies, meet the daily needs of people and avoid local shortages, especially in flood-prone areas.

The leader of the Hue City Market Management Department also informed that the unit will continue to strengthen market inspection and control, strictly handle cases of hoarding and price gouging. At the same time, coordinate with suppliers to ensure that essential goods are always available, so that people do not run out of goods under any circumstances.
