The convincing victory of the Vietnam U23 team against the UAE U23 team recently demonstrated a strong desire to rise to prominence, assert their position, and confidently compete on equal footing as Vietnam gradually steps onto the larger stage of the region and the world .

The Rach Chiec National Sports Complex, which broke ground in Ho Chi Minh City on January 15th, is being developed by Sun Group as the investor under a PPP model, affirming its position on the global sports map.

The Rach Chiec National Sports Complex is not just a simple sports project, but is envisioned to become an international-standard sports, culture, and entertainment center, as well as a large-scale public space serving the urban community.

The heart of the entire project is the 73.1-hectare central cultural and sports complex, with a total investment of over 80,000 billion VND, playing a key role in shaping the identity and stature of the entire area. This is where major sports facilities converge, simultaneously meeting three requirements: high-level competition, professional training, and large-scale event organization.

The most prominent feature is the central stadium, the iconic structure of the entire project, spanning 24 hectares and boasting a capacity of up to 70,000 seats. Built using state-of-the-art technology, with a soundproof and air-conditioned roof, the stadium surpasses many other well-known covered stadiums in the region in terms of scale and technology.

The stadium will address Ho Chi Minh City's "potential but limited space" for hosting events, as previously there were only the 25,000-seat Thong Nhat Stadium, which is now dilapidated, or the Phu Tho Sports Arena, which has limited seating capacity and functional space.

Complementing the stadium is a multi-purpose arena with a capacity of approximately 18,000 seats, capable of flexibly hosting indoor sports and artistic performances to international standards. Alongside this is a comprehensive system of facilities including an aquatic sports center, a tennis center, and a professional training center, creating a complete ecosystem serving both competition and the training of elite athletes.

With this scale, the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex has a significant competitive advantage over other countries in the region in attracting international sporting events and competitions.

Unlike traditional sports complexes that only light up during the season, the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex is developed as a multi-functional facility, operating continuously and deeply integrated with urban life.

Alongside the sports facilities, the complex is planned with a comprehensive system of urban public services, including: facilities for athletes and coaches, a sports hospital, a plaza, and community amenities. This structure allows Rach Chiec to not only serve major sporting events but also become a daily living space for residents, a new cultural and sports center of Ho Chi Minh City.

Looking at Singapore, in the first quarter of 2024 , major events at the Singapore Sports Hub and National Stadium attracted over 1 million international visitors, with estimated related revenue of US$270-350 million. With the development of the Singapore Sports Hub complex, the sports events market in Singapore is estimated to reach nearly US$3 billion by 2033.

The comparison is made: Ho Chi Minh City is currently the most dynamic city in the country, boosted by the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex with its superior strengths, making it capable of becoming a center for organizing major music festivals and world tours by global stars.

The establishment of the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex not only helps Vietnam proactively secure infrastructure when hosting regional and international games, tournaments, and events, but also opens up development opportunities for related industries such as tourism and services. More importantly, this is a strategic step for Vietnam to gradually transition from a participating nation to a host nation, from a player to a host country in large-scale sports programs and competitions.
