People are advised to choose the appropriate route when crossing Chuong Duong bridge.

More than a week after Long Bien Bridge temporarily closed traffic from Bo De into Hanoi's downtown, many roads around the area are still congested during rush hour. Faced with this situation, authorities have organized traffic diversions and issued recommendations to help people move into the downtown area more conveniently.

From November 1 to December 31, the authorities will ban all non-motorized vehicles (motorbikes and bicycles) on Long Bien Bridge from Bo De Ward to Hoan Kiem Ward to repair the bridge. During the ban, vehicles will travel along Long Bien - Xuan Quan route and then cross Chuong Duong Bridge into the inner city.

According to VNA reporters, during rush hours (from 6:30 to 8:00 and from 17:00 to 18:30 every day), the number of vehicles passing through Chuong Duong Bridge increased sharply, causing serious congestion on neighboring roads. Especially, in the direction from Long Bien - Xuan Quan embankment and Nguyen Van Cu Street, at many times the line of vehicles stretched for kilometers. Many people have not yet adapted to the new route, affecting their daily routines.

“Long Bien Bridge is closed to traffic, forcing me to travel a longer distance, through Chuong Duong Bridge to get into the city. I have to leave about 30 minutes earlier than usual to take my child to school and get to work in the city on time,” said Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Mai (38 years old, living in Bo De ward).

Long Bien Bridge is banned from one-way traffic, making Chuong Duong Bridge the shortest route for people and vehicles to travel from Bo De; Nguyen Van Cu... into the inner city.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Dao (Gia Thuy apartment building, Bo De ward, Hanoi ) said that her office is near the Opera House area, so every day she has to ride her motorbike across Chuong Duong bridge to go to work. For more than a week now, the authorities have banned motorbikes from crossing Long Bien bridge for repairs, causing the Chuong Duong bridge to be overloaded, especially during rush hour, when vehicles passing through this area have to move meter by meter. "Every day, I go to work via Nguyen Van Cu street to go to the bridge, but this time Nguyen Van Cu street is also jammed all the way to Hong Tien street, so I have to go around Ngoc Lam street to Ngoc Thuy dike to go to Chuong Duong bridge. However, the traffic jam is also long here," Ms. Dao said.

Every day, Mr. Nguyen Van Son crosses Ngoc Thuy dike to Chuong Duong bridge to go to work in the city center. Since the restriction of vehicles passing Long Bien bridge, the number of vehicles passing Chuong Duong bridge has been overloaded, making it very difficult for people who have to go to work during office hours like him.

“To reduce traffic congestion in the area leading to Chuong Duong bridge, in my opinion, the police need to take measures to separate lanes from a distance, such as not allowing vehicles on Nguyen Van Cu street to turn down to Xuan Quan - Long Bien embankment, or not allowing vehicles on Nguyen Van Cu street to turn around in the area near the Vietnam Chemical Corporation... These are traffic conflicts that cause serious congestion in this area,” Mr. Son suggested.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Chinh, Deputy Captain of Road Traffic Police Team No. 1, Traffic Police Department (Hanoi City Police) said that Long Bien Bridge was banned from one direction (from Bo De Ward People's Committee to the city center) causing the density of vehicles to suddenly increase on Chuong Duong Bridge, causing local congestion. The most congested time of the day is during the morning rush hour.

Although the Traffic Police force has mobilized its forces, coordinated with the Ward Police to be on duty and regulate, local congestion still exists. “On bad weather days, low temperatures accompanied by prolonged drizzle, people tend to use personal cars to travel, which also makes traffic around this area more complicated than usual,” said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Chinh.

Authorities recommend that during the temporary one-way ban on Long Bien Bridge, people in urgent situations should proactively calculate their time or change to another route to avoid congestion. Traffic participants need to strictly comply with the Road Traffic Law; follow the instructions and traffic flow of the Traffic Police to avoid unfortunate incidents, contribute to building a civilized traffic culture, and keep themselves, their families and society safe.
