In addition to traditional Tet gift baskets with jam, tea, and wine, the appearance of OCOP products in recent years has contributed to enriching the Tet gift market. However, to get people into the habit of consuming OCOP products, especially as gifts, it is necessary to promote and advertise more, not only OCOP products of the province but also those of other regions in the country.

There are still nearly two weeks left until Tet, but Mr. Nguyen Nhu Loc, in Dong Luong ward, Dong Ha city, took the opportunity with his wife to choose some gifts to send to his in-laws in Vinh Long province. Mr. Loc said that in the past, every time Tet came, he was confused about what gift to give his in-laws that was meaningful, practical, and had value.
“My in-laws’ hometown has a lot of agricultural products and fruits, so my husband and I are always wondering what gifts to send that are both local and of guaranteed quality. Fortunately, in recent years, my wife has chosen to buy OCOP products from the province such as cajeput essential oil, ca gai leo extract, turmeric starch, and perilla powder... to send to my in-laws as Tet gifts. These products are of high quality, have beautiful designs, and are convenient, so they love them very much. So every year we look for local specialties to send as gifts to relatives and friends living far away.”
The market consumption trend is increasingly improving, so choosing quality gifts during Tet is always a top priority for customers. At this time, many stores selling clean agricultural products in the province have imported a large number of OCOP certified products from localities such as fruits, foods, jams, cakes, nuts to serve Tet.
Ms. Phan Thi Giang, owner of Lien Giang Mini Mart in Dong Ha City, said that there are many products from different regions that are popular with people such as Dien grapefruit, oranges, veal sausage, fermented pork rolls, dried fruit jam, dried nuts, tea, coffee, etc. These are also items that can be combined to make meaningful and high-quality Tet gift baskets. Local products are very diverse and suitable for use on Tet, and are OCOP certified, so people can rest assured about the quality.
As for the province’s OCOP products, currently the majority of OCOP certified products are medicinal herbs and essential oils, while food products are not diverse and abundant, so consumers do not have many choices when they want to buy them as gift baskets. Therefore, the store has proactively imported more OCOP products from localities to meet consumer demand.
The province currently has 136 OCOP products, including 43 4-star products and 93 3-star products. Products that are suitable as gifts include brown rice cakes, nutritious rice cakes, seaweed cakes with nuts, boat cakes, coffee, tea bags, Trieu Phong clean rice, Sepon organic rice, etc.
Recently, Co.opmart Dong Ha supermarket has signed a cooperation agreement to consume products with 5 enterprises and cooperatives producing and processing products, including Tran Lan Clean Agricultural Products Production and Trading Company Limited; Dinh Son Mai Thi Thuy Medicinal Herbs Company Limited; Huyen Thoai Natural Essential Oil Company Limited; Ben Quan Fruit Tree Production and Trading Cooperative and Truong Son Medicinal Herbs Cooperative. Currently, many Quang Tri OCOP products are sold in a separate booth at the supermarket, attracting the attention of consumers.
In addition to Dong Ha Co.opmart supermarket, the province's OCOP products are sold at retail stores such as Lien Giang Mini Mart, Khe Sanh Agricultural Cooperative's booth, Huyen Thoai Natural Essential Oil Company's retail store, OCOP store, regional specialties "Carrying home to the city" of Bao An Khoi Trading and Service Company, OCOP product display store and provincial specialties of Ngoc Bich Natural Medicinal Materials Company, OCOP product display store and provincial specialties of Quang Tri Natural Herbs Company.
It can be seen that the list of OCOP products of localities inside and outside the province is increasingly diverse, rich, of good quality and traceable origin, trusted and highly appreciated by many customers for its quality. Using OCOP products as gifts will stimulate local creative startups, making the province's OCOP products become tourism products that receive the attention and support of consumers.
However, in general, the consumption of OCOP products still has certain difficulties and limitations such as few processed products, small-scale production, low production and business management level of cooperatives, enterprises, business owners and traders. Promotion has not received due attention, so most consumers still do not have the habit of using OCOP products, do not know much about OCOP products of the province as well as other localities.
To continue promoting the value and promoting OCOP products and typical products of the province closer to consumers, especially during the Lunar New Year 2024, sectors, socio-political organizations, and localities need to prioritize and encourage the use of OCOP products and typical products of the province as gifts in prominent events; regularly organize many forms of introducing and promoting OCOP products to consumers.
Encourage cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers of agencies, units, enterprises, and localities to use Vietnamese goods, build a consumer culture of "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods", "Vietnamese Tet uses Vietnamese goods" to stimulate consumption, promote typical and unique products of the province, especially during the period of high consumer demand concentrated on the upcoming Lunar New Year.
