According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Ninh province, the province currently has 29,800 hectares of lychee orchards, with an estimated yield of approximately 95,068 tons, equivalent to 59.5% of the plan. Of this, early-season lychees account for 8,200 hectares with about 40,048 tons; and main-season lychees account for 21,600 hectares with about 55,020 tons.
The area under production according to VietGAP standards is 17,500 hectares, GlobalGAP 255 hectares, and organic 10 hectares. The harvest time for early lychees is expected to start from May 25th, and for the main crop from June 10th.
Despite unfavorable weather conditions that hampered the flower bud differentiation stage, resulting in uneven growth and flowering in many orchards, the quality of lychees this year has significantly improved thanks to the close guidance of the Party committee and government, and the efforts of the people.
Bac Ninh province has organized a selection process for "Beautiful Lychee Orchards," managing planting area codes and packaging facilities in accordance with the new regulations.
In Phuc Hoa commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, residing in Quat Du 2 village, is busy tending to his lychee orchard.
This year, his orchard achieved a fruit setting rate of nearly 80%. To focus on production according to VietGAP standards and export to demanding markets, Mr. Cuong strictly adhered to the process, from orchard renovation and installing an automatic irrigation system to using biological pesticides when fruit stem borers were detected.
"Along with harvesting the fruit, many lychee growers are also aiming for experiential tourism , so they have to follow the correct procedures from the beginning," Mr. Cuong shared.
Currently, the province has selected 117 beautiful lychee orchards with an area of over 114 hectares and a production of nearly 935 tons to serve export and tourism. All orchards meet technical standards, have beautiful landscapes, and are equipped with check-in areas and rest stops, ready to welcome tourists from May.
Mr. Dang Van Tang, Head of the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that the unit regularly sends staff to guide people in applying advanced farming techniques and strictly control the use of pesticides.
The province currently has 243 registered growing areas with a total area of over 17,450 hectares serving the export market, of which the Chinese market accounts for the majority with 126 registered areas and over 16,190 hectares.
Notably, Bac Ninh province is "activating" various channels for lychee consumption to maintain the value of the agricultural product and support growers. At the conference to evaluate lychee production, consumption, and sign cooperation agreements for consumption in 2026, representatives from many departments, localities, businesses, cooperatives, e-commerce platforms, and logistics units attended.
Comrade Pham Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, who chaired the meeting, emphasized:
In 2026, the consumption of lychees will be diversified through various channels, including wholesale markets, supermarkets, and social media platforms. Expanding the export market for lychees demonstrates the determination to bring Bac Ninh lychees to domestic and international consumers.
At the conference, numerous cooperation agreements were signed between farmers, cooperatives, and businesses, supermarkets, wholesale markets, railway transport, and express delivery companies. For example, companies such as Amway, Red Dragon, Toan Cau, Dragon Garden, Vifoco, and Amei... signed contracts to purchase lychees from representatives of cooperatives.
Recently, Vifoco Bac Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company exported over 100 tons of lychees preserved using rapid freezing technology.
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet, the company's director, the "reconstitution" technology has helped lychees retain their freshness after thawing, opening up a sustainable direction for deep processing.
This year, the company continues to invest in equipment that meets Japanese standards and works closely with farmers to process lychees into canned lychees, frozen lychees, dried lychees, juices, and other convenient products.
The consumption of lychees through e-commerce platforms has also been boosted. Platforms like TikTok Shop, Shopee, and Sendo, along with live streaming sales directly from the orchards, have provided consumers with authentic and engaging experiences.
According to Pham Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Bac Ninh province hopes to secure more product purchase contracts in 2026, expanding markets to Australia, the Philippines, and other countries, while also developing gift products made from lychees with beautiful and elegant designs.
In addition, the province also focuses on linking production with tourism, especially beautiful lychee orchards which will become destinations for tourists to experience the lychee ripening season. The province has assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate the development of a promotional song, organize eco-tourism activities, and develop souvenir products featuring the image of lychee.
Currently, despite a decrease in production, the price of early-ripening lychees remains high, ranging from 55,000-80,000 VND/kg at the orchard and up to 70,000-100,000 VND/kg at the market, demonstrating the strong appeal of Bac Ninh's lychee specialty.
