On December 5, in Quy Nhon ward (Gia Lai), the Forest Protection Department of Region IV coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai to summarize 5 years of forestry work and coordination regulations between the Forest Protection Department of Region IV and the Forest Protection Departments of provinces and cities in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands for the period 2021-2025 and key tasks and solutions for the period 2026-2030.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Bui Sanh, Head of the Forest Protection Sub-Department of Region IV, said: Over the past 5 years, thanks to the solidarity, efforts and overcoming all difficulties of the forest ranger force in the whole region, contributing to advising, organizing and implementing the work of forest management - protection, forest fire prevention and fighting, forest product management, forest use and development... achieving positive results.
According to Mr. Sanh, after the merger, the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions have 6 provinces and cities with a total natural area of nearly 10 million hectares, accounting for more than 29.9% of the national area. According to the results of the announcement of the forest status in 2024, the whole region has over 5.6 million hectares of forestry land; of which forest land is nearly 5.1 million hectares, including more than 3.6 million hectares of natural forest and over 1.1 million hectares of planted forest and nearly 1 million hectares of non-forested land (bare land with regenerated trees and other land); the average forest cover rate of the whole region is 48.79%, this is the region with the largest forest area in the country.

In the 2021-2025 period, coordination in state management and enforcement of forestry laws between the Forest Protection Department of Region IV and the Forest Protection Departments of provinces and cities in the South Central Coast - Central Highlands region has shown close and effective cohesion.
During this period, the number of violations of forestry laws tended to decrease year by year; a decrease of 15,145 cases (a decrease of 53.15%) compared to the period 2016-2020; the area of damaged forest (due to fire, destruction) decreased by nearly 2,018 hectares (a decrease of 65.54%) compared to the period 2016-2020. In the whole region, there were 15 cases of resisting law enforcement officers, resulting in injuries to 8 people and damage to many vehicles, equipment and other properties; a decrease of 63 cases (a decrease of 19.23%) and the number of injured people decreased by 20 people (a decrease of 28.57%) compared to the same period in the period 2016-2020.

The total area of concentrated afforestation in the whole region in the 2021-2025 period will reach over 326.3 hectares; the total area of large timber afforestation and conversion of timber afforestation business in the whole region will reach 108,000 hectares; coastal afforestation will reach nearly 7,000 hectares and support for afforestation under Program 1719 (sub-project 1) will reach 390 hectares.
In the period 2021-2025, the entire region will plant more than 124,000 scattered forest trees of various types. The total area of enclosed regeneration will reach more than 71,700 hectares, an average of more than 14,300 hectares/year...
Mr. Bui Sanh, Head of the Forest Protection Sub-Department of Region IV, added: In the period of 2026-2030, the forest rangers in the region will strive to protect and sustainably develop the entire existing forest area and newly created forest area, striving to increase the forest cover rate of the whole region to 50.5% by 2030. Strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of forestry law enforcement, striving to reduce by 10% to 20% of the number of forestry law violations and damaged forest area every year.

By 2030, strive for 100% of forest area and land planned for forestry development to be allocated or leased to real forest owners; 100% of forest area and forestry land of forest owners who are organizations to be sustainably managed and the planted forest area to be granted sustainable forest management certificates to reach over 300,000 ha.
Strive to plant 450,000 hectares of concentrated forests, an average of 90,000 hectares/year; of which, planting protective forests, special-use forests, coastal forests 10,000 hectares, an average of 2,000 hectares/year and planting production forests 440,000 hectares, an average of 88,000 hectares/year; of which about 25% of the area is intensively planted with large timber forests; 150,000 scattered forestry trees, an average of 30,000 trees/year; 700,000 hectares of planted forests are cared for and nurtured, an average of 140,000 hectares/year; developing non-timber forest products (medicinal plants, Ngoc Linh ginseng) from 80,000 hectares to 120,000 hectares; The output of timber exploited from planted forests strives to reach 30,000 m3, an average of 6,000 m3/year...

At the conference, the Forest Protection Department of Region IV signed a coordination regulation with 6 forest protection departments in the South Central Coast region; the Forest Protection Departments of 3 bordering provinces, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai and Dak Lak, also signed a coordination regulation for the period 2026-2030.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai, pledged: “With the responsibility of the person in charge of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai, I pledge to take full responsibility in directing and urging the Provincial Forest Protection Department and its affiliated units to seriously, synchronously and effectively implement the signed contents in this regulation. We will turn this regulation into a solid legal and professional corridor to maintain and develop the province's forest resources, and at the same time fulfill the responsibility of coordinating with the Forest Protection Department of Region IV and the Forest Protection Departments of other provinces”.
