Mr. Le Hong Ha, Head of the Market Management Department of Gia Lai province, said that, implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department has established a quick response team for storm No. 13 - KALMAEGI, mobilizing 100% of civil servants on duty, regularly monitoring price fluctuations, firmly grasping the supply source and coordinating with local authorities to propagate and guide production and business establishments to strictly comply with regulations on listing and selling.
According to the Gia Lai Province market management force, the market for iron, steel, corrugated iron, and roofing tiles after the storm tended to increase slightly in price due to the increased demand for home repairs and renovations. Some construction material stores temporarily stopped operating due to power outages and supply disruptions. However, there was no shortage of goods or hoarding.
In many stores, the price of corrugated iron and steel increased by about 5-10% compared to before the storm, while roofing tiles and roofing tiles increased by 6,000-10,000 VND/piece depending on the type. Production and business establishments in Tay Son commune - a major brick and tile supplier in the province - still maintained operations, ensuring the supply of goods to serve the housing restoration needs of the people.
According to Mr. Le Hong Ha, immediately after the storm, the demand for iron, steel, corrugated iron, and roofing tiles increased sharply as people urgently repaired their houses. Although there was a slight increase in prices, it was mainly due to transportation costs and temporary interruptions in supply. Market management forces quickly stepped in, checked, grasped actual prices, and propagated to businesses to stabilize prices and not take advantage of the situation for profit.
To prevent the situation of taking advantage of natural disasters to increase prices, hoard goods or sell goods of unknown origin, the market management force has organized 336 propaganda sessions, signed commitments with business households not to take advantage of natural disasters to increase prices, hoard goods or sell goods of unknown origin; at the same time, coordinated with the Economic Police Department (PC03) - Gia Lai Provincial Police to strengthen inspection and supervision at construction material business establishments.
In the coming time, the Gia Lai Provincial Market Management Department will continue to closely monitor the supply and demand, especially for construction materials and essential consumer goods. If violations are detected, they will be strictly handled according to regulations. At the same time, the department will increase propaganda on mass media, helping people and businesses to accurately grasp prices and avoid being exploited.
"Gia Lai Province Market Management Department will maintain regular monitoring and strictly handle all acts of speculation and price increases to ensure market stability, contributing to the early restoration of life and production after the storm with all levels and sectors," affirmed Mr. Le Hong Ha.
