Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City are projected to exceed US$10.3 billion by 2025.

On the afternoon of January 22nd, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Branch Region 2, stated that in 2025, the total amount of remittances transferred through credit institutions and economic organizations in Ho Chi Minh City will reach over US$10.34 billion, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2024 (US$9.55 billion). Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 will mainly be transferred through economic organizations, accounting for nearly US$7.43 billion, or approximately 71.8% of the total remittances. Meanwhile, the flow of funds through credit institutions will reach nearly US$2.92 billion, equivalent to 28.2%.

According to Ms. Lien, this result shows that remittances to Ho Chi Minh City continue to maintain sustainable growth, despite the volatile global economic and political context, and affirms Ho Chi Minh City's role as the largest remittance recipient in the country. The continued stable growth of remittances confirms its role as an important source of foreign currency, contributing to balancing the supply and demand of foreign currency and stabilizing the monetary market.

Ms. Lien also stated that the structure of remittances to Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 will continue to maintain stability, with Asia and the Americas remaining the two main markets, accounting for over 80% of the total remittances. The European, Oceanian, and African markets recorded positive growth, contributing to the diversification of remittance sources and reducing dependence on a few traditional regions.

Specifically, remittances from the Asian region reached nearly US$5.06 billion, equivalent to 48.9% of total remittances to Ho Chi Minh City, an increase of 3.2% compared to 2024. Next is the Americas region with remittances exceeding US$3.3 billion, accounting for 31.9% of total remittances, an increase of 12%. Remittances from Europe reached US$921.46 million, accounting for 8.9%, an increase of 16%. The Oceania region reached US$893.62 million, accounting for 8.6% of total remittances, an increase of 15.1%. Notably, although only accounting for 1.7% of total remittances, equivalent to US$173.35 million, remittances from Africa recorded the highest increase, reaching 39.3% compared to the previous year.

Information from the State Bank of Vietnam's Regional Branch 2 also indicates that in 2025, remittances transferred to Dong Nai province through credit institutions will reach over 181 million USD.
