This is a great honor for the athlete from Quang Binh when for the second consecutive time he is the flag bearer leading the Vietnamese Sports Delegation in the parade at the opening ceremony of the largest sports event in the region. The General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to the 32nd SEA Games, Dang Ha Viet, personally announced this decision on the afternoon of April 20.
At the 31st SEA Games, Nguyen Huy Hoang was chosen at the last minute to replace fencer Vu Thanh An as the flag bearer leading the Vietnamese delegation into My Dinh Stadium at the opening ceremony. Vu Thanh An then switched the task of reading the oath with Huy Hoang. This time, the responsibility was given while Nguyen Huy Hoang was still training in Hungary, preparing to return home to attend the 32nd SEA Games.

Huy Hoang won gold medals in the men's 1,500m and 400m freestyle events and with the men's 4x200m freestyle relay team won gold medals along with a historic SEA Games record of 7 minutes 16 seconds 31. He also successfully defended his gold medal in the men's 800m event and surprisingly finished first in the 200m butterfly event. With 5 gold medals won at the 31st SEA Games, Huy Hoang became the male swimmer with the best performance at a SEA Games in Vietnamese sports .
Born in 2000, the swimmer from Quang Binh has been associated with the success of Vietnamese swimming in the international arena in recent years. Notably, at the 2018 Asian Games, Huy Hoang won a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle and a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle.
Huy Hoang is the number 1 male swimmer of the Vietnamese swimming team.
In an interview after finishing his training session in Hungary, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang said he was honored and proud to be entrusted with the responsibility of holding the flag for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games. "I will try to practice and compete better to be worthy of the trust that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation has given me. According to the team's plan, we will return home on April 24 and continue to practice at the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City until May 4, when we will leave for Cambodia. I will try to compete with the goal of winning 3 gold medals. Hopefully I will complete my goal and contribute to the overall success of Vietnamese Sports", Nguyen Huy Hoang shared.
