His achievement of 1 minute 00 seconds 97 also broke his own record set at SEA Games 31 (1 minute 1 second 17).
Sharing with the press after winning the gold medal, the Ben Tre swimmer said he wanted to dedicate the gold medal to his deceased grandmother.
“I have lived with my grandmother since I was little, so she has had a great influence on me. When I was training in Hungary to prepare for the SEA Games, she passed away, so I couldn’t go back to see her for the last time,” Thanh Bao said.
“I am very happy and proud right now. I will try my best in the upcoming competitions to bring glory to Vietnamese sports . I would like to thank my teachers and fans for always believing in and supporting me,” continued the SEA Games record holder.
Finally, the swimmer who just won the 100m breaststroke gold medal affirmed that he does not want to stop at the SEA Games arena but will strive to get a ticket to the Olympics.
“I haven’t been home since Tet, I’ve focused all my energy on training. I also put pressure on myself to be better every day to aim for the Olympics,” Thanh Bao asserted.
