On May 6th, the Hanoi City Police Command Information Center announced that at approximately 11:19 PM on May 5th, the 114 Command Information Center of the Hanoi City Police received a report of a fire at a porridge shop located at 5 Hang Voi Street, Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi.
According to initial information, the shop is adjacent to a house behind it, and four people are trapped inside that house.
Upon receiving the report, the City Police Command Information Center promptly dispatched Firefighting and Rescue Teams No. 7, 8, and 9 of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, sending 5 fire trucks, 1 ladder truck, 1 fire motorbike, 2 command vehicles, and 1 truck carrying equipment, along with approximately 40 officers and soldiers, to the scene to quickly deploy firefighting and rescue operations.
At the scene, the fire originated on the first floor, emitting thick smoke and toxic fumes, posing a risk of spreading to the residential buildings behind. After assessing the situation and determining that people were trapped inside the buildings behind, the fire commander promptly directed officers and soldiers to use breathing apparatus and specialized equipment to access the upper floors to search for and rescue the victims. Simultaneously, the firefighting force deployed firefighting teams from multiple directions to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding areas.
After a period of firefighting and rescue efforts, with the coordination and support of the local authorities, the ward police force, and the public, at approximately 11:45 PM on the same day, the fire was completely extinguished, causing no casualties and preventing it from spreading to neighboring houses and upper floors.
Authorities promptly rescued and brought four victims trapped in the fire to safety, handing them over to medical personnel and the Hoan Kiem Ward Police for health check-ups and monitoring.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.
Following this incident, the Hanoi City Police recommend that people proactively equip themselves with and raise their awareness of fire prevention and firefighting at home, especially in residential buildings combined with businesses, or in townhouses and multi-story buildings.
1. Equip yourself with portable fire extinguishers (powder or CO₂), fire blankets, and basic demolition tools to promptly deal with fires when they first break out.
2. Install early fire warning devices such as smoke detectors and independent fire alarms in areas prone to fire hazards.
3. Prepare an escape plan, arrange a second escape route (balcony, window, rope ladder, etc.), and ensure there are no obstructions in the escape routes.
4. Regularly inspect electrical systems and appliances; turn off unnecessary heat sources and power sources before going to bed or leaving the house.
5. Encourage family members, especially children, to participate in escape skills training and firefighting equipment usage instruction.
Proactive prevention and the provision of initial fire prevention and firefighting equipment will help minimize damage and improve the ability to handle situations from the moment a fire breaks out.
