On the evening of September 14, the final round of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 ended with the title of Miss Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen. Previously, she was crowned Miss Vietnam in 2014 when she was only 18 years old.
Thus, the beauty born in 1996, from Nam Dinh, has twice won the Miss title at two beauty contests in Vietnam.

Sharing her feelings about winning the title twice, Ky Duyen said: "I feel cool (laughs). Just kidding, but I feel very proud of myself. This is also a very meaningful milestone for me, exactly 10 years since I was crowned Miss Vietnam 2014.
And 10 years later, I was lucky enough to win another contest. In the near future, I can represent my country and shout out the two words Vietnam on the international arena."
Before Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen's achievements, many people wondered, is she the first person in the history of beauty contests in Vietnam to be crowned Miss twice?

On his personal page, media expert Ngo Ba Luc - who has followed beauty pageants for nearly 30 years - wondered about the fact that Miss Thien Nga had won two domestic pageants twice, namely Miss Tien Phong Newspaper 1996 and Miss Vietnam 1999.
He said that Miss Vietnam and Miss Tien Phong Newspaper are one and the same, organized by Tien Phong Newspaper. This is the first national beauty pageant held since 1975.
The first contest was held in 1988 with the name Miss Tien Phong Newspaper Association (Bui Bich Phuong was crowned) and changed its name to Miss National Tien Phong Newspaper from 1990 (Dieu Hoa was crowned), and from the 2000s onwards it was called Miss Vietnam.
Miss Vietnam is held every two years in even years: 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996 (Thien Nga crowned) and in 1998, Ngoc Khanh was crowned, Vu Thi Thu ( Quang Ninh ) was 1st runner-up.
Information about Thien Nga participating in the Miss Vietnam contest in 1999, then winning the crown and competing in the Miss Friendship International 1999 (and winning a subsidiary prize) means that the 1999 contest that Thien Nga participated in was definitely not part of the Miss contest system organized by Tien Phong newspaper...".
Speaking with Dan Tri reporter, poet Duong Ky Anh (Duong Xuan Nam) - the "father" of the Miss Vietnam contest - affirmed that Ky Duyen is not the first person to be crowned Miss twice.
"Before Ky Duyen, Nguyen Thien Nga (born 1975, HCMC - PV) was the first person to win the highest title in both contests called Miss Vietnam.
The first contest Thien Nga won was Miss National Tien Phong Newspaper in 1996 - the predecessor of the current Miss Vietnam contest.
Three years later, the Ministry of Culture and Information, now the Ministry of Information and Communications, hosted the Miss Vietnam 1999 pageant for the only time, to find a Vietnamese representative to participate in the Miss World and Southeast Asia Friendship pageant. And in this pageant, Thien Nga competed and continued to be crowned the highest position," said Mr. Duong Ky Anh.

It is known that Miss Nguyen Thien Nga not only possesses a beautiful figure with a height of 1m70 and measurements of 84-60-90, she is also an impressive contestant with intelligent and graceful answers in the National Miss Tien Phong Newspaper contest in 1996.
At the 1996 contest, when asked: "Why is the Vietnamese traditional ao dai still popular among so many new fashion trends today?", the beauty replied: "Because the ao dai is truly a suitable outfit for Vietnamese women, helping them become more graceful and lovely. And the most important thing is that every time you see the ao dai flying on the street, you will see the soul of the homeland there."
In 2001, Thien Nga went to the US to study for a master's degree in business administration (MBA) at San Jose State University.
After graduating, she took on the role of business consultant for an organization in Silicon Valley in Northern California. In 2003, the beauty queen married a professor at San Jose University, ten years her senior, and had a son.
Talking about Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen temporarily putting aside the noble title of Miss Vietnam 2014 to continue to be a contestant in another beauty contest and then being crowned Miss for the second time, Mr. Duong Ky Anh said that if he were Miss Ky Duyen, he would not participate in any more domestic beauty contests.
"Miss Vietnam is a prestigious contest, with national scale and stature. Internationally, I have also participated in many beauty contests and found that Miss World is still the most prestigious and largest contest today," said the "father" of the Miss Vietnam contest.
