“Discipline and Unity” the source of strength

89 years ago, the historic event of the General Strike on November 12, 1936 of more than 30,000 miners with the spirit of solidarity of "Discipline and Unity", under the leadership of the Party against the oppressive regime of French colonialism and its henchmen, won a resounding victory. That spirit became the fire that fueled the mettle of coal miners, so that for nearly 9 decades, "Discipline and Unity" has always been the core value, giving strength to generations of workers in the Vietnamese Coal - Mineral industry to step firmly, contributing to ensuring national energy security.

After nearly 89 years with many ups and downs of history, the spirit of "Discipline and Unity" has become a source of strength in the culture of workers and people in the Mining Region. That value has forged the traditional beauty of the more difficult, the more united; the more challenging, the more loving and sharing. And that tradition of "Discipline and Unity" has been and is the red thread throughout, adding motivation for the Coal industry to develop sustainably, contributing to building Quang Ninh into a model province, rich, beautiful, civilized and modern.

From that traditional source, many units in the Group continue to strive to rise. A typical example is Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company, which is currently organizing production at the -300 meter level, affirming the mechanization system and the spirit of overcoming difficulties of the miners. Although a synchronous mechanization system has been applied, the deeper the unit goes, the more complex the geological conditions are, causing the unit to face many difficulties and challenges. In that hardship, the tradition of "Discipline and Unity" becomes a source of spiritual strength to help generations of Ha Lam workers steadfastly overcome challenges.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bac, Deputy Director of Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company, said: Promoting the tradition of "Discipline and Unity", the collective of officers, engineers and workers of the entire Company always uphold the spirit of solidarity, discipline, overcome difficulties, actively compete in labor production, contributing to the successful completion of the targets assigned by the Group. Each Ha Lam miner strictly follows the technical process, ensures safety in all stages of underground mining, and constantly innovates to improve productivity and work efficiency. In the coming time, the Company will continue to dig tunnels down to -550 meters, in order to maintain stable production, strive to achieve a mine capacity of 2.4 million tons of coal/year, creating a premise for sustainable development in the new period.

Miner Doan Van Soan, Mining Mechanization Site 2 (Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company), shared: The tradition of "Discipline and Unity" has always been the spiritual support that helps generations of Ha Lam miners overcome all difficulties and challenges to excellently complete assigned tasks. Promoting that tradition, workers in the unit constantly research, innovate, and propose reasonable mining organization goals and plans, both reducing costs and lowering prices, improving efficiency and ensuring absolute safety at all production positions.

Currently, the unit's underground route is being urgently deployed; each worker is enthusiastically competing, both producing and speeding up tunnel digging progress, completing the set plan, and at the same time actively learning and improving skills to meet the increasingly high specialization requirements.

Through many historical periods, the tradition of "Discipline and Unity" has always been respected, preserved, promoted and nurtured by generations of officials and workers in the Coal industry, to turn challenges into opportunities. Entering the period of industrialization, modernization and international integration, the Vietnam Coal - Minerals industry continues to play a key role in ensuring national energy security. In the face of the requirements of green energy conversion, emission reduction and sustainable development, the spirit of "Discipline and Unity" has become a solid spiritual support, helping miners affirm their mettle, intelligence and responsibility for the development of Quang Ninh province and the country.

In the period of 2020-2025, Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) is expected to contribute more than 90,000 billion VND to the budget, creating stable jobs for about 95,000 workers with increasing average income. Along with that, the Coal industry actively participates in social security programs, building new rural areas, sustainable poverty reduction and improving the mining environment.

The spirit of "Discipline and Unity" is the strength that helps the Coal industry overcome difficulties, maintain stable production, and make important contributions to the socio -economic development of Quang Ninh province and the whole country. In the first 10 months of 2025 alone, TKV units exploited more than 32.4 million tons of raw coal (reaching 84.6% of the yearly plan), excavated 122.7 million m³ of earth and rock (reaching 82.3% of the plan), dug 229,070 meters of new tunnels (reaching 83.8%), and consumed 36.6 million tons of coal.

Comrade Pham Hong Thai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Quang Ninh Coal Party Committee, said: In the coming period, the Group has identified the goal of more sustainable, modern and effective development. The tradition of "Discipline and Unity" is the foundation for achieving this goal. On that basis, the Group focuses on technological innovation, promoting digital transformation and automation, building green mines, modern mines, and smart mines to improve productivity, ensure safety and protect the environment. At the same time, developing high-quality human resources is considered the center; today's miners not only need health and skills but also knowledge, industrial style and high discipline to meet production requirements in the new period.
