Solemnly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the morning of December 2, the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2025) was solemnly held at ThatLuang Square in the capital Vientiane (Laos).

Attending the ceremony were General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and leaders of the Lao Party and State; representatives of ministries, departments, branches and localities; veteran revolutionaries; representatives of all walks of life in Vientiane; international delegations; representatives of diplomatic missions, international organizations in Laos and representatives of Lao communities abroad.

General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, attended and shared joy with the brotherly country of Laos.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Lao Party and State leaders, General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith delivered an important speech. General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith stated that 50 years ago, this was the place where a large number of Lao revolutionaries and patriotic people gathered to seize power in the capital Vientiane, leading to the National Congress of Delegates declaring the complete abolition of the colonial and feudal regimes, establishing the Lao People's Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975. This great historical event "has profoundly changed the fate of our country and society and opened a new era, building our beloved country, moving rapidly and firmly along the path of independence, autonomy, unity and prosperity, ensuring that the Lao people have a prosperous, free and happy life".

General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith emphasized that looking back at the great victory and the building of a new regime that resounded throughout the country and the world, we are deeply moved and grateful for the glorious victories, the great contributions and sacrifices of President Kaysone Phomvihane, President Souphanouvong and the leaders, soldiers, heroes, party members, cadres and people of all Lao ethnic groups who heroically sacrificed their lives for the cause of national salvation, without fear of any hardship or difficulty, until the country gained independence and complete liberation.

On this important occasion, on behalf of the Lao Party, State and people, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith warmly welcomed, sincerely thanked and expressed his gratitude to friendly countries near and far, development partners, international organizations as well as social organizations that have actively supported and assisted Laos over the past 50 years in the cause of protecting and developing the Lao people.

General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that the past 50 years have been a process of establishment, continuous improvement and development of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the pinnacle of a fierce, arduous, and long-term struggle with a noble, unyielding spirit of patriotism through vibrant revolutionary movements and the sacrifices of our ancestors, of the heroic Lao people, as well as the valuable support of friendly countries, especially the solidarity and fighting alliance of the three brotherly Indochinese countries of Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, to be able to achieve the great and glorious victory as President Kaysone Phomvihane - the beloved leader, the beloved son of the Lao people - concluded: "Long-term struggle, great victory".

During 50 years of protection and development, the Lao People's Democratic Republic has firmly affirmed its revolutionary nature and tradition as a lesson in continuing to lead the country forward, namely: "Resolutely upholding the socialist ideal, promoting national solidarity to perfect a strong people's democratic regime, building socialism must originate from the people, by the people and for the people, all State power truly belongs to the people and the will to do its utmost for the happiness of the people". This is the steadfast and consistent ideal of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the aspiration of the Lao people. The next generation of young people must continue to be steadfast in leading the revolutionary cause, leading the country firmly towards socialism.

In the face of the rapidly evolving, complex, profound and comprehensive regional and world situation with many challenges, General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith said that Laos will continue to adhere to its foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship and cooperation for development, promoting relations and cooperation with friendly countries and development partners, including continuing to strengthen solidarity and close relations with strategic friends; building an independent and self-reliant economy, firmly following the path of balanced and harmonious development between the economy, culture, society and the environment in a green and sustainable direction; continuing to exploit and promote strengths and potentials, combining national strength with the strength of the times in protecting and developing the country on the basis of promoting national consciousness, independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, and firmly advancing into the world; Promote people's mastery, people enjoy development results fairly and widely, constantly build a prosperous and wealthy life.

Laos strives to achieve the great goal of continuing to perfect the people's democracy regime stated in the Party's Political Platform: "By 2055, the 100th anniversary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Laos will have developed with an upper-middle income, a strong political system, a modern economic foundation, comprehensively developed productive forces, appropriate and progressive production relations, and the lives of the Lao ethnic people will be basically guaranteed, moving towards a prosperous life."

Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that he will continue to protect the revolutionary achievements, results and victories over the past 50 years with his life and the steadfast, consistent ideals of future generations forever.

Immediately after the speech of General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, the parade of armed forces; ministries, departments, branches; socio-political organizations and unions took place in a grand and solemn manner, vividly demonstrating the achievements in all areas of life, society, economy and national defense that the Lao Party and people have achieved over the past 50 years.

The ceremony attracted a large number of Lao people to watch; expressing the strong belief and confidence of the people in the bright future of the country, which was founded and built by previous generations, is being developed by today's generation and continuously improved by the next generation, building a peaceful, independent, democratic, unified and prosperous Laos.
