On the afternoon of October 17, the Department of Science and Technology organized the acceptance of the provincial-level scientific and technological task for the topic "Application of advanced cultivation techniques on the new Gia Loc 516 rice variety to serve agricultural production towards green growth in Hai Duong province". This topic is chaired by the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants.
The project was carried out over 3 years with a total scale of 400 hectares in the districts of Cam Giang, Binh Giang, Nam Sach, Tu Ky and Gia Loc. Gia Loc 516 rice variety was bred and selected by the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants, has many advantages, is quite resistant to pests and diseases, has strong plants, good lodging resistance, and blooms quickly...
Advanced farming techniques are applied in the production process such as: Using Trichoderma biological products during soil preparation to treat straw after harvest; transplanting by machine and sowing by sprayer; using drones to spray pesticides; applying alternating wet and dry irrigation techniques...
As a result, the yield of Gia Loc 516 rice cultivated using advanced techniques reached 68.8-nearly 69 quintals/ha in the spring crop and 64.3-65 quintals/ha in the summer crop. Compared to the control variety Bac Thom No. 7, the yield of Gia Loc 516 rice was 16.9-19% higher.
Gia Loc 516 rice model cultivated using advanced techniques also gives higher productivity from 10.3-11.4% compared to the same rice variety but cultivated using traditional methods. Economic efficiency is higher than traditional rice cultivation from 16.6 to 36.4% due to reduced use of pesticides, fertilizers, and labor costs...
The project management board proposed that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development create favorable conditions for localities to apply advanced rice cultivation processes on rice varieties with similar characteristics to Gia Loc 516.
