Vietnamese football players born in the Year of the Horse have birth dates ranging from February 12, 2002 to January 31, 2003. The most prominent in this group is goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet . He is currently the starting goalkeeper for The Cong - Viettel in the V-League and is regularly called up to the Vietnamese national team for the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Defender Vu Tien Long is also one of the notable players born in the Year of the Horse. He scored for the Vietnam U23 team (against South Korea U23) at the 2022 AFC U23 Championship, rose through the ranks of Hanoi FC's youth academy, and is currently playing for Hanoi FC in the V-League. In previous seasons, Tien Long was loaned to Quang Nam and was one of the key players who helped Public Security (now Hanoi Police) reach the V-League.
Along with Tien Long, midfielder Ngo Duc Hoang is a hopeful prospect for the next generation of Hanoi FC during this period of generational transition. Duc Hoang was a student of coach Philippe Troussier in the Vietnam U19 and U23 teams.
Pham Dinh Duy (right) once showed great promise when he was called up to the Vietnamese national team by coach Park Hang Seo in 2022. He currently plays for Da Nang FC in the V-League, and has been a key player for the team in recent seasons. Currently, Dinh Duy's team is struggling at the bottom of the league table.
Another very promising defender from the Year of the Horse generation is Giap Tuan Duong (right). He is one of coach Philippe Troussier's favorite players in the Vietnam U23 team and the Vietnam national team in 2023 and 2024. Tuan Duong is currently playing for Hanoi Police FC, but is not being used much under coach Alexandre Polking.
Thanh Hoa FC in particular, and player Nguyen Van Tung (in the yellow jersey) in general, are hoping for a brighter 2026. Van Tung was a member of the Vietnam U23 team that won the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and is currently a key player for the Thanh Hoa team, which is struggling to compete in the V-League amidst difficult circumstances.
Defender La Nguyen Bao Trung was also a student of coach Philippe Troussier in the Vietnam U23 team in 2023. He graduated from the People's Police Academy and is currently playing for Ninh Binh Club this season. Bao Trung has only played 27 minutes in the V-League this season.
Defender Ho Van Cuong is also a promising player in the U23 and Vietnam national teams, known for his speed and technical skills. He currently plays for Song Lam Nghe An, recently underwent surgery for a knee ligament injury, and is expected to return by the end of this year.
Similar to Ho Van Cuong, midfielder Tran Ngoc Son (left), born in 2003, has played for the Vietnam U23 and senior national teams, but has been absent from campaigns under coach Kim Sang Sik. He is currently playing for Nam Dinh Club, but rarely gets playing time.
