Speaking to VietNamNet reporters, singer Thao Trang shared her special belief in the house-first-footing custom passed down from her grandparents, which she has maintained to this day.
Every year, she looks for relatives or acquaintances whose birth year is compatible to be the first person to enter her house at the beginning of the year. This year, however, because she couldn't find someone born in the year of the Water Goat (2003), she took a chance and posted on Threads looking for someone born in 2003, living in Thao Dien ward, to help.
"It was a gamble because I wasn't sure if anyone would come. Even after filling out the information, there was no guarantee they would dedicate the first day of the Lunar New Year to me. I could only place my absolute trust in them and was overwhelmed when nine people came in groups to my house this morning - the first day of the Lunar New Year. It was such a beautiful sight!" the singer excitedly recounted.
Thao Trang added that the nine young people were well-dressed, outgoing, and confident. Through the lively conversation, she learned a lot more about those labeled "Generation Z".
After the first visit of the year, she wished the nine young people a happy new year and gave them lucky money.
Like many other Vietnamese families, in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), singer Thao Trang cleans her house, buys flowers, and prepares traditional dishes. She says she's following in her grandparents' and parents' footsteps, preparing the same things they did.
Every year at the beginning of the year, she still maintains the tradition of offering greetings, giving lucky money, performing the first-footing ritual, and giving red envelopes (lucky money)...
This year, Thao Trang celebrated Tet in Ho Chi Minh City, so she didn't make traditional rice cakes like in previous years. She spent the entire three days of Tet with her child, visited her brother's house to offer incense, and met with friends.
On the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, Thao Trang will embark on her first trip of the year, specifically a performance combined with tourism in Central Vietnam.
Looking back on 2025, Thao Trang is pleased to have had an interesting year. After the " Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind" program , she made many new friends and gained more fans, especially young fans.
The singer felt her passion rekindled, "recharged" with new and positive energy.
At 39, she wants to live a peaceful, relaxed life, without many desires. If she has any, she wants to dedicate the best things to her son, Alex, so that he can grow up happy and healthy.
The female singer buys riverside garden land to enjoy her retirement, hoping to have a seaside villa in her old age. For the first time, singer Thao Trang affirms that she is not as poor and struggling as the press often portrays her. She lives in a high-end apartment complex and recently bought a plot of land to enjoy her retirement.
