Lai Chau: Landslide kills one passerby

The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on July 2 at Km76+650 National Highway 4D (in Chu Va 12 village), Binh Lu commune, Lai Chau province.

The victim was Nguyen Van Cuong (born in 1981), residing in Vai village, Bat Xat commune, Lao Cai province.

Information from the scene, local government representative said: In the past few days, due to heavy rain, rocks and soil from the slope fell down, making the road slippery.

On the afternoon of July 2, when Mr. Cuong and his wife were traveling from Lai Chau to Lao Cai, when they reached the above location, Mr. Cuong's wife got out of the car and walked because the road was slippery and muddy. Mr. Cuong drove the car alone through the landslide, but while he was driving, suddenly the rocks and soil from the positive slope continued to slide down, pushing both Mr. Cuong and the car down the negative slope 200m deep.

Immediately upon receiving information about the incident, local rescue forces and authorities organized a search at the scene. At 6 p.m., authorities found Mr. Cuong's body under the negative slope.

Currently, the rescue team has brought Mr. Cuong's body back to his family for burial according to custom.
